Frasier reboot

First full trailer for ‘Frasier’ reboot drops – and it’s new city, same Frasier (msn.com)

‘Frasier’ Revival Trailer: Kelsey Grammer Steps Back into Frasier Crane (people.com)

It’s been 20 years since we last saw Dr. Frasier Crane, but it appears there is going to be a re-boot which premiers on October 12th. The back story is that Frasier has moved away from Seattle and back to Boston in order to reconnect with his (now adult) son.

Having no Niles, Roz, or Daphne (or obviously Martin), the new cast promises a different complexion.

Anyone plan on watching it, or have high hopes that Kelsey Grammer will recapture the comedic magic?

I’m probably gonna wait till the reviews are in. So mainly I’m replying to just be in the loop.

No Niles is a real loss. David Hyde Pierce was the funniest person in that series.

I guess Eddy’s gone too. My favorite part of that show were Frasier and Eddy’s interactions.

Roz is a recurring character in the show. Not in every episode, but in some.

I saw the trailer and am willing to give the show a couple of episodes.

Just to note that I don’t view this as a “reboot,” as it’s not a re-creation or re-imaging of the original series, Grammer is still playing the role, and it appears to be a continuation / “next chapter” for the character from the events of his prior series. It’s more of a “revival,” which is how the second link in the OP describes it.

I’d call it a spin-off.

I’d just go with sequel. To a spin off…

Was not having almost the entire main cast a choice or did no one want to do this except Grammer?

Wikipedia indicates that Peri Gilpin (Roz, as @Peter_Morris noted) and Bebe Neuwirth (Lilith) are appearing in this as recurring characters.

Of the rest of the main cast of the old series, not including the late John Mahoney, that just leaves David Hyde Pierce (Niles) and Jane Leeves (Daphne), unless you count Dan Butler (Bulldog), who was only apparently listed in the main cast for seasons 4 through 6.

Pierce is currently slated to appear on stage in Here We Are, Stephen Sondheim’s final musical, which premieres in New York later this month. Leeves was appearing as a regular on The Resident on Fox until this past winter. So, it’s possible that they were simply already booked on other projects.

In case you haven’t seen it, here’s an alternative trailer.

I watched the trailer and I’m planning on giving it a try. It looks like they’re trying to put Freddy into Martin’s old role, as the “regular folks” foil to stuffy Frasier. I liked the original so I’ll give this one a chance.

Maybe Frasier is retired now? That adjustment in life would open up a lot of stories.

I guess I would go along with that. Perhaps a mod can re-title the thread “Frasier spinoff”

I found the trailer underwhelming. Both Cheers and Frasier had great supporting casts. None of the people in the clip looked interesting to me. If “don’t sit on my expensive sofa” is a highlight, I’d hate to see the rest.

Really good writing helped Cheers and Frasier to work as well as they did. We’ll have to wait to see if the writers here are any good.

I heard that the story is that Freddy dropped out of college to become a firefighter, so I’m guessing that’s going to be a source of conflict with Frasier.

Yes and Frazier is now very wealthy.

I assumed he was before. I don’t recall much explanation about this, but he wasn’t poor back in the Cheers time period. A Boston area psychiatrist would have been making pretty good money on his own. He and Lilith seemed to own a valuable house in the Boston metro area, and he probably did well in the divorce under the circumstances.

Wasn’t his mother supposed to be very wealthy? Didn’t she try to pay Sam to lure Diane away from her son? I assume he an Niles inherited money from her, and even if she left the bulk of it to his father he and Niles would have inherited that by now.

In addition he must have been well paid for his long running radio gig in Seattle. He certainly spent money there like he was quite wealthy already. Unless he frittered it all away I think some pretty basic investing would have turned his level of wealth at the time Frasier ended into a significant money now.
