But this isn’t even pointing our racism. Its perfectly compatible with the, " I don’t see color, racism ended in with MLK’s ‘I have a dream speech’, we are all equal now," fairy tale that the most Republicans are espousing. The only thing it’s not compatible with is out and out white supremacy.
I’ve often pointed out that what Republicans seem to take issue with is AESTHETICS rather than CONTENT. You are right that in content there’s nothing that anyone other than an out and out racist could object to. And yet, how big a blowup do we see every time a movie franchise simply includes a black character or a woman?
But that is spun as the woke establishment forcing the studio to cast black actor despite the fact that its a role meant for a white person, so it’s the movie company is the real racist by going for a black actor instead of the best actor (with a dog whistle to replacement theory).
Although, in that light, now that I think about it, I guess if they squinted real hard and hit their head with a hammer a couple of dozen times, they could interpret this sign as saying that two white kids can’t be friends. So maybe that’s the way they would spin the kid’s so called trauma. Still, I’d like to see the guy try to justify that interpretation in front of an audience.
I don’t know if my guess is more cynical or less than yours, but I kind of figured the idea was that they see The Other Side as special little snowflakes who (a) complain about stuff that folks on the right see as unobjectionable, and who (b) get that stuff taken down or altered or slapped with a trigger warning or whatever — and so they’re firing off this frivolous complaint, precisely in order to spark a reaction of no, you can’t just make A complaint; you need to really work at JUSTIFYING it, and, honestly, the complaint you’ve made is so fucking STUPID that I’m now deciding we should institute some kind of high bar for claims like this to clear (which, though it’s not my intent, will shut down a lot of complaints from the lefties — which is your intent).
Convoluted, maybe — but I figure it would fit all the facts, and could explain everything.
Or that you should feel guilty about hanging out with your white friends instead of making black ones, or that you should judge your parents because they married within their ethnicity instead of branching out, or…
I propose testing that hypothesis. I’ll even happily provide the hammer.
OK so we’ve collectively boiled down the reason to the
- Obviously Racist: the thought of a white kid holding hands with one of those people is traumatic.
- Obviously Stupid: Black and white people being friends means white and white people can’t.
- Obviously frivolous: Well he wasn’t really traumatized, but if he was a liberal he would have been, so those posters need to come down now!
I still want to see him forced to pick one of those options and defend it in public.
Or even just in a commercial. Remember the freak-out over the cereal commercial with an inter-racial family?
Or he can choose what really happened:
4. No child was traumatized. The trustee made it up.
Of course exactly zero of the target audience would believe that. They would insist the evil libs forced them to say it was a lie.
No link, sorry.
So, I’m watching CNN on the television in my hotel room in Seoul. CNN showed a little of one of the bobbleheads on Fox freaking out about Trump will be getting a mug shot when he’s processed for his arrest in Georgia. She made it sound like the only reason to follow the procedure is to ensure Trump looks bad. Got news, Fox; that ain’t what’s making him look bad.
The mug shot is one thing, but do they check his shoes for lifts before they record his height?
oooo. They better.
Dude. I could have gone all morning without that picture.
On the other hand, it’s good for my diet. I’ve lost my appetite.
He’s less fat in that pic than I expected he’d be. Although I don’t know whether that pic is 10 or 20 years old.
He’s got a red hat, but without the maga white lettering bullshit. Has he always had a thing for red hats?
Anyway, fuck that guy.
Dunno when it was taken but it surfaced early in his administration so, circa 2017. The lack of MAGA-red in his hat might make it older.
A cousin that is NOT a MAGA had a cute little red baseball cap. No MAGA BS on it and she despised Trump.
It bugged me when she wore it though.
I have a co-worker who didn’t want to wear her bright red fire marshal hat in drills because it looks like MAGA hat.
I’ve seen people with red hats that were just supporting a team and until I got a look it made me nervous.
The Cincinnati Reds baseball team, for a time in the 1950s, were called the “Redlegs” precisely because “reds” at the time was a reference to Communists. It’s sort of like how Isis is no longer an acceptable name because of terrorist connotations.
