Don’t want to interrupt the Charleston lovefest, but this story reminds me of the sneakers which are traveling around the world. They fell off a cargo ship in 1990 and are still being found. Maybe the mysterious orbs are part of a similar lost cargo.

My theory is that these are fuel tanks from foreign spacecraft or rockets. I read somewhere that they are round and very substantial, so that they can handle the pressurized oxygen and hydrogen. When a spacecraft burns up in the atmosphere, the fuel tanks are usually the only thing that survives, IIRC.
