I have so many games that I may never actually play. I’ve got like 65 installed and I have played less than 10. I was very excited for all 65 when I bought them, almost always on a deep discount. But as soon as I get a game my brain reclassifies it.
Sort of like back in the day when DVDs were a thing. I would get a DVD I was super excited for, and then once I had it I would never watch it.
Same here. I find that subscription plans for streaming movies, and MS game pass to a certain degree, is more conductive to make me actually try out movies, shows or games that sounds kinda interesting. I might not finish them, but at least they are not collecting dust, or whatever steam game collects when you don’t play them.

Most are unknown to me, but I can definitely recommend Wolfenstein, Saints Row and Deus Ex. Probably also Mafia II if that’s your thing.
I’m still angry at Wolfenstein: The New Order (released before Old Blood, but later in the in-game story timeline). Yeah, it had plenty of dumb story moments (too many), and some first person shooter fun, but the main storyline, deliberately or not, actually justified Nazi actions against Jews, and that was … unforgiveable for me.
Just… I hate-finished it, but felt kind of dirty doing so.
So, the premise of New Order is that the Nazi’s discovered secret technology, created by Jews, and hidden from the world, despite the fact that it could easily be used for the good of all. The Nazis then took that tech and used it to subjugate the world. IE, there IS a giant Jewish conspiracy, and they are keeping the people from living a better life than they could otherwise.
Honestly looks pretty meh to me, but free is free and there’s no accounting for taste.

I have this on my Xbox, installed years ago when it was made available by Game Pass. My daughter liked Minecraft so she wanted to play co-op with me.
It’s pretty fun. It is Minecraft in name and appearance only. It plays more like a Roguelike action game, with RPG elements. You get experience and levels that you can use to upgrade your stats (health, attack, speed, and so on), and also earn loot to improve your gear. It’s cartoony (as you’d expect) but there’s a fun game behind it. My favorite part is the novelty of the gear; for example, you can get a sword that summons bees as you attack people, and the bees you summon will fly around and sting people like combat pets.
Just don’t expect typical Minecraft gameplay; there is no real overworld to explore (you play a series of stages that you can go back and revisit) and there is no building involved. It’s like a cartoony Diablo-style game, especially since the drops you get have the classic Diablo trilogy of spellcaster, ranged attacker, and melee attacker (which you can mix and match in one character). The controls and gameplay are simple without being boring. It was a pleasant surprise to me. I thought it would just be a lame cash-grab on the franchise name but it’s not, there was clearly real effort put into it.
I know this is the Free PC game thread but, occasionally, there are some really good sales worth noting. While these games cost money they are (mostly) on a really, really deep sale.
GOG (Good Old Games) is currently having such a sale which will be on for another 11.5 days or so from this posting time.
Many titles are marked down below $10 or even $5. And some of the games on sale are part of GOG’s awesome preservation program, which means they’ll stay playable for a very long time. Even if the publisher removes the game from GOG, the store has committed to preserving it and making sure it stays playable on modern hardware.
From that article they listed what they think some good ones are. But there are lots more:
Fear: Platinum Edition - $2 ($10)
Stranglehold - $2 ($10)
Deus Ex: GOTY Edition - $1 ($7)
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - $3 ($20)
Sim City 2000 Special Edition - $1.50 ($6)
Sim City 3000 Unlimted - $2.50 ($10)
Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition - $5 ($20)
Theme Hospital - $1.50 ($60)
Resident Evil 1/2/3 Bundle - $20 ($25)
Fallout - $2.50 ($10)
Silent Hill 4: The Room - $7 ($10)
Fallout 3 GOTY Edition - $ 7 ($20)
Fallout 4 GOTY Edition - $16 ($40)
Fallout: New Vegas Ult. Edition - $8 ($20)
XCOM 2 - $3 ($60)
SWAT 4 GOLD Edition - $5 ($10)
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anv. Edition - $17 ($50)
Freedom Fighters - $1.50 ($15)

Ultima 4/5/6 - $1.50 ($6)
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault | War Chest - $5 ($10)
The Saboteur - $5 ($20)
Return to Castle Wolfenstein - $2 ($5)
$3 for XCOM2? Assuming you like that genre that is an amazing bargain. Outstanding game.
For anyone that likes Vampire Survivors, HoloCure is free and I’ve been having a lot of fun with it. Nice casual game for when I don’t want to play anything too involved. It is very similar to Vampire Survivors but has a more quirky aesthetic and more to do, like a home base where you can grow/craft things. You can also use the right stick to aim your attacks one direction while moving another direction.
