Does anyone know of a free way to convert non-*.mov movies to *.mov? (Isn’t that what iPods need?)

Scroll down a bit for the free version. I use it all the time, it works great.
I thought iPods use a kind of mp4, but I could be wrong. Maybe that’s for watching movies on mobile phones. Anyway, this app does it all pretty much.
I have had good results with handbrake.
Videora seems to be designed specifically for Ipods. I’ve used it but haven’t played around with the options much yet.

Correct, but it’s an Apple format, and is effectively equivalent to a .mov
I’ve had success with Videora as well but mostly I’ve just used itunes. Right-clicking on a video you’ve imported brings up a menu which includes the option to “convert selection for ipod/iphone”, not sure if it works for all formats but it’s worked well for me.
