Mac OS Video Convert.

Im looking for the ultimate , all inclusive, video conversion program for my Mac. I need it to be able to convert all types of video including iPod and PSP formats. I dont care what it costs as long as its easy and actually works. Any ideas?

Video recompression is a voodoo art, but the best app on the Mac has long been Cleaner, which, of course, has changed hands so many times that it has no vision or passion left behind it. As for iPod and PSP formats, both are just h.264, so I suspect even QuickTime pro, or any of the basic video compression utils could do it. If you want one app to do everything, easily and quickly, perfect quality every time, you will likely be disappointed.

I use a couple…Quicktime Pro, Handbrake and Handbrake Lite. FWIW, converting FROM iPod coded stuff doesn’t look very nice on anything higher resolution. (I just took a TV show, and ‘over’ converted it to AVI so my DVD player could play it.)

Couse, I’m looking at this as a cheap end user, my budget wouldn’t permit Cleaner (an Autodesk product)

I guess the only conversions Id really like to do would be DVD to PSP and iPod. Will FFMPEGX do these conversions? I have a copy of it but Im not sure if its working quite right. How do you set up aspect ratio and bitrate for iPod and PSP?

Try handbrake then, it’s specifically designed to rip DVD to ‘mobile friendly’ formats.

Yes ffmpegx will do that.

However, if all you want is to rip down to iPod size, try something like iSquint.

Handbrake will do the same thing (you have to enter in the resolution) , iSquint is just a one trick pony to convert to iPod size.
