French Idiom

“t’as pas invente l’eau tiede mais c’est pas ce qu’on te demande non plus…”

what is the english equivalent of this idiom: t’as pas invente l’eau tiede

Literally, “you didn’t invent warm water”, meaning figuratively, AFAICT, “you’re not terribly bright” (i.e., you can’t even figure out how to make warm water by blending hot and cold water).

Idiomatic English equivalents might include “you’re not the sharpest tool in the shed”, “you’re no Einstein”, “you won’t set the Thames on fire” (British English only), etc.

Thanks Kimstu ,
posed the same question to about a dozen French speaking Canadians ( randomly chosen using Skype search) assuming someone would know … got no comprehensible response at all.

Wow, well done to Kimtsu I live in France and have never heard this expression but then I didn’t know the British one either :frowning:

Yeah, that’s more of a Cuyahoga River thing.

Here’s a french

Sorry… try again. Here’s a French site with an explanation, which is as Kimstu describes.
