It’s noteworthy that while polls were accurate in the complicated multi-candidate first round they significantly underestimated Macron’s vote in the two-candidate second round. A possible reason may be that the e-mail hacks backfired which should hopefully discourage future cyber miscreants.
This was a pretty decisive victory. I’d like to hope that this is strong evidence of a back lash against the rise of right wing populism. I think the rest of the world is seeing what a joke Trump’s presidency is, and the absolute debacle of the brexit process and realising that sometimes they do need to listen to “experts” and have people that actually understand how government works in power.

From the relevant wikipedia page, we have the following map, which shows what départements were a win for Macron vs. a win for LePen. Yellow is Macron, Blue is LePen.
LePen won in 2 out of 102 départements. Macron won in the other 100.
I think this map makes it very clear that Macron had much more wide-ranging appeal than LePen across the whole country.
