I had been working in the back yard and basement while my dog, Cash, kept me company. Occasionally we would take a break to romp and play. After several hours we decided it was time to go in for a bit. I opened the gate to the backyard fence and Cash ran out ahead straight to the door of the house. We’ve done this a million times. I shut the gate and as I was walking to the door, where Cash was waiting impatiently, something in my peripheral vision caught my attention. I looked down and saw 7 drops of fresh blood on the leaves. Yes, I’m sure it was blood and yes, it was very fresh. No signs of drying even around the edges. Funny thing how fresh blood catches our attention.
After the nightmare with my other dog that I posted about recently, I grew very concerned very quickly. I looked Cash over from head to toes - no blood. I had my wife look him over - nothing. I looked myself over - nope. Cash and I were the only ones who had been outside. I went back and looked again. Blood still there, now starting to dry.
The only thing I can figure is that a bird of prey made a meal of a fresh kill in the oak tree above, but there wasn’t really enough spatter to account for liquid dropping from height.
I haven’t a clue how 7 drops of fresh blood ended up on the leaves on my driveway. What weirdness has happened in your life?
