Is it a “free” room when you are pouring thousands of dollars per week into the casino?
I met a guy in passing who put himself through school via gambling. Maybe he was just not that good a poker player, but it sounded like he could have made as much money at a low-level job, certainly with more convenient hours.
Yeah, I’ve had the same question. How much is being spent on gambling in order to get the free room? A friend has been comped to a Las Vegas room a few times, but he says he had to lose a lot to get those rooms. And he freely admits that those rooms were paid for, just not at the hotel’s front desk. They were paid for from the amount he lost.
I’ve played horses for years, but comps for gambling are not allowed here in Canada. Notwithstanding that, I have received a few complimentary beers at the track’s bar, though those were always on the QT: “Oh, gosh, I pulled a pint that nobody ordered! What will I do with it?” Then in a quiet voice, “It’s for you, Spoons, you’ve had no luck on the horses today, and deserve at least something for being here.”
It’s something, at least, but it’s far from a room.
Yep - this. Is the total price of rooms, food you are being ‘comped’ greater than the total amount of money you are pissing away at the slots?
Also, a decent comparison should really be the price of rooms and food in places not attached to a casino - because I’m just going to assume the prices in that context are inflated above normal.
If (and I doubt it) this equation has a positive result, then sure, you are in a way, ‘winning’. But honestly, is there any way that’s actually true?
If the equation has a negative result, then you absolutely could ‘just stop’, and you’d be better off. Appreciate that ‘just stopping’ isn’t simple for other reasons.
If the other things you wrote in the OP are a true account, yes, you do. You absolutely do.
You guys seem to keep ignoring that I BONUS CHASE. I only play games that are in the +EV state. Well, except when I make mistakes lol. I do not lose thousands per week. Jeez, I wish I made that much money at my job to be pissing away thousands a week at the casino. I lost that 2K because I was an impulsive idiot. It was my first time ever playing that game. I didn’t bother to analyze that game by watching other people play. Had a done it, I probably would’ve been okay. I would’ve noticed that the red column moved MUCH slower than I expected. When the columns in that game reach the top completely you are guaranteed a bonus round. A bonus round with 10 free spins. With many more wilds than it is in the base game. That’s what make it profitable. That game is guaranteed a bonus round at the top. And if you dont get one, that is considered a malfunction. And I actually MADE 1K last week. Last Monday I made a total of $3K within a 24 hour period. Very hot streak.
I get these comps because it LOOKS like im losing thousands a week. I yank my players card before the games go into the bonus rounds. So the money won in the bonus round doesn’t show up on my card.
I hope someone more articulate than myself steps in to explain this.
There’s that phrase, “a distinction without a difference.” Maybe there’s some difference here, but I’m not seeing a whole lot of daylight between the two.
This. This is the part that matters. And they’re going to get better at playing you faster than you can adapt to the new ways they’re playing you.
Whatever’s going on here, it’s going to act enough like an addiction so that the difference won’t make no never mind.
You are right. The casinos are getting better at playing me faster than I can adapt. Me having this amount of losses is a NEW thing. For whatever reasons I having a lot of trouble adapting to these new generation of slots. THAT I will own up to. It looks like I have to stop playing the newer games until I get on the right side of the learning curve. And stick to the old games. I know that intellectually. But I’m having a hard time putting it into practice. These new games have better bells and whistles. While I’m waiting for the older games to fill up with bonuses ( OTHER PLAYERS fill them up), I get bored as fuck and sometimes temptation strikes me and I get sidetracked with the the new games. I need to manage my boredom and resist temptation.
I admit and own up to having a problem. I just disagree that this problem is addiction, as for now. If it turns out that I can’t stop this yeah it’s probably an addiction. I once drove across town in a snowstorm to get laid. Does that mean I have a sex addiction? I mean I couldn’t stop myself. Figuratively or literally. I was driving in a snowstorm and slid a few times lol.
Yeah, I agree my issue is imitating addiction. What I’m experiencing DOES look like a gambling addiction on surface. Am I just mismanaging my gameplay and bankroll? Or do I have a true addiction? Time will tell.
You ever watch a baseball game where the player loses the ball? Maybe it’s right behind him but he’s looking everywhere except behind his ankles? Thousands of fans in the stands & every other player on both teams with a better view of the big picture can see if he just turns around & looks down he’ll find the ball? Well, I see a lot of people in this thread telling you to turn around & look down. Add me to that crowd, as well. Mebbe you should listen to our collective advice. Just something to think about.
Absolutely! Friday nights NOT at the casino are a delight! That means I’m out partying with my friends or hanging out with a girl. But my friends don’t like to go out. So, I’d rather be at the casino making money and maintaining my comps.
As a gambler, you should know things sometimes happen in streaks. There’s no reasons for the casino to be ganging up on you or employing AI for who knows what reason at what cost for little benefit or what not. They have their percentage payout tables. They set their machines to them. There’s auditors (one of whom used to be or maybe still is on this board) to check they payout is what they say it is and there isn’t any funny business going on. What do they need more and more advanced methods for? They’re still chasing the same 8-10% edge on the slots. You just got lucky a bunch of times, and now you’re getting unlucky, and maybe you’ll get lucky again with a streak. Etc. Such is the nature of probability. I would say it’s “catching up to you,” but that’s not a fully accurate account, either, as odds have no memory, as you know. There are times where there are theoretical payout advantages (when the jackpot for a slot machine gets high enough), but you need a deep bankroll, time, and grind to eke out those couple percentage points of advantage. And you may not get it before you lose your stack.
Whether you have a bona fide addiction or just are a “problem gambler” I think does little to alter the reality of the situation.
Oh, regarding the comped rooms again. Not all of those comped rooms are from MY account, sometimes I stay in my casino buddies comped rooms. If I’m out of town, my buddies who live in town will give up their comped room coupons because they are no use to them. Sometimes they give them up to other hustlers, sometimes they give them to me.
Yes, if you don’t practice those tailgating and hit/run strategies. Did you google ///advantage play///? When the gaming commissions and slot manufacturers run tests on these games they do not facture in ///advantage play///. They run those cycles from beginning to end. They don’t facture in annoying ///slot vultures/// circling around the slot waiting for them to build up to a bonus, them cashing out, and then the vultures taking the bonus left behind and them cashing out after the bonus strikes.
Did you google ///advantage play/// or ///slot vulturing///? I do not play games with a 8%-10% edge, unless I make mistake or miscalculation like I did last Friday night. Actually casino games can have up to a 15% house edge. They tend to be older games or games that have been nerfed.
