So, do you have any famous people as friends on Facebook? I don’t have very many Facebook friends, and none of them are famous. I did just send the singer Prince a friend request- we’ll see if he responds! I won’t hold my breath, but if he knew how much I love him, he’d surely marry me- I mean friend me back.
My 12 year-old son is completely obsessed with the show Hell’s Kitchen, and has like, 20 friends on Facebook that have been contestants on the show- even some winners! He would love love love to be Facebook friends with Gordon Ramsey, but his friend request won’t even go through. He does take comfort in the fact that, with a lot of friends in common with him, at least Mr. Ramsey does see his little face to the right under “People You May Know”.
Do you have any famous friends on Facebook? Are we just weird? (Okay, don’t answer that.)
A few who are really friends and really famous.
Famous people’s FB pages don’t typically let you send friend requests. Instead you can “become a fan”, which does not require them to accept the way a friend request does.
Actually, there’s their public “page”, and then there’s sometimes also their personal Facebook account, as well. When you attempt to friend them, a popup will ask you to confirm that you actually know them. Then, it’ll either send them the request, as it did with Prince, or it’ll say they’ve already gotten too many friend requests and won’t send it to them, as it did with Gordon Ramsey.
Yes, I have several famous authors whom I actually know, and several famous authors whom I don’t know and of whom I am just a fan.
There are a lot of really famous writers and posters to a message board thats marginally related to a famous Chicago paper…
I have one friend who is well known in his industry…for his involvement in a project that is well known nationally and somewhat internationally. (It won one of those really ritzy nationally televised overhyped awards - the type that some people throw parties to watch…) But his name isn’t publicly associated with it. Through him, I’ve met some of the actually famous people, but I’m not friends with them.
If Prince friends you, could you let him know that I love him too?
I have better things to do than follow the facebook postings of people I don’t really know. The ramblings of people I like are sometimes too much.
My husband follows a few folks on Twitter who are famous - Roger Ebert is pretty good to follow, for instance.
Okay, but I will feel duty-bound to inform him that your love is, of course, inferior to mine.
Sure, but mine is more exotic.
Prince would be up for it - he’s a talented boy.
Okay, deal. But you two will have to come here, as both of your locations are too damn cold for me right now. I’ll set it up and get back to you.
I friended one of the principal actors from the NBC show Trauma, and we’ve messaged a couple of times. The show has since been cancelled, and nothing else has gone on between us.
::slight hijack::
Before I put a profile pic on FB, I was inundated by friend requests from northern Europe. I share a name with a famous model from that part of the world and folks were likely sending requests to anyone with that name who wasn’t obviously not the model. Just make sure that it’s the correct celeb.
::hijack over::
I have to agree with Dangerosa, I have better things to do if it’s a famous person that I don’t know. I do have a couple of celebs under their IRL names as FB friends, but I do know them.
I have some famous people who I know IRL and thus friend. There are also some TV and movie actors who do maintain a presence on Facebook and accept friend requests.
The problem is that there’s a limit to the number of friends (Roger Ebert hit the limit and now only posts to his public page), so celebrities usually go with the public pages.
Not that any of you will know these people, but long ago, on Nick, there was a show called Hey Dude…and I’ve seen a couple of the actors and actresses FB profiles. If you search “Joshua Tygiel”, the first person to come up his the actor who played Buddy. And from his friends list you can find Kelly Brown (who played Brad).
