"Friends" episode edited in Netflix

I was watching Friends last night on Netflix. It was “The One Where Everyone Finds Out” about Chandler and Monica. I have seen it several times…but this one was different.

The scene where Joey is in Monica and Rachael’s apartment with Rachael and Phoebe, and the 2 are trying to toy with Chandler and Monica…“Do they know that we know?”.

The scene was noticeably shorter. I realized that the several of Joey’s lines had been cut. Also, when Phoebe asks him to bring her wine and a couple glasses…and he brings her cooking sherry and a couple of coffee mugs…that was gone too.

What the hell? Why edit the scene? There are no commercials to deal with. The missing parts were maybe 20 seconds…

The version that Netflix bought the rights to stream is probably the edited for syndication versions. Those are usually trimmed.

I thought Netflix usually licensed the DVD versions. Is that true and did they make an exception for this show?

Basically, the version that came on DVD were extended with originally deleted scenes. The episodes on Netflix are what originally aired.

It’s possible they fucked up and put the wrong version up. I hear sometimes they respond to people (politely) complaining about this sort of thing on social media.

One edit I saw is for the two part ‘The One that Might Have Been" which is the one in the parallel universe where their lives were different. Originally those episodes had an alternate version of the opening credits showing the characters’ new lives and the end credits were Monica in her fat suit dancing. On Netflix the episodes’ credits are all normal.

Really? Even the syndicated version has the parallel credits (at least if they actually show the credits, fucking TBS… looking at you)
