Friends reunion in May

I just watched about 15 minutes of it and really liked it. It may not be that exciting for folks who aren’t pretty big fans. They’ve brought up details and questioned one another about different episodes and sometimes they don’t recall and I’m sitting on my couch yelling the answer. Yes, I’m a fangirl :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Been watching it. What’s the matter with Perry? Is he stoned at the reunion? Did he have a stroke?

He has a whole litany of problems. His job is a joke. He is broke. His love life is DOA.

and clearly Joey stole all the food!

There’s a comedian who jokes that all of the stars on one major TV network were somewhat older actors and actresses popular when they were young. He thought the network slogan should be “They’ve still got it. Maybe that means you’ve still got it.” Well, I thought it was funny.

Reminds me of a button I saw as part of one of those gag birthday packages. In big letters it said, “I’ve still got it”, and in small letters it said, “but nobody wants to see it anymore”.

I have a feeling that he’s even worse than he appeared and that they edited it the best that they could.

And Chandler’s job was statistical analysis and data reconfiguration. It seems like someone should have known that.

This LA Times article says he had an emergency dental procedure the day of the show. Maybe it’s true but it sounds like an excuse Joey made up.

I don’t think Perry was feeling the warm fuzzies like the rest of the actors were.

Perry has had addiction troubles, and has been in and out of rehab quite a bit. According to wikipedia, he has said that he doesn’t remember about three years of his time on Friends because of his drug use. Sadly, that sort of thing takes a toll on the body.

I wish him the best, and hope that he is, and stays, clean and sober. But even when he was doing The Odd Couple, which ended four years ago, there were comments that he didn’t seem to be his old self.

I was surprised to hear that David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston had real life romantic feelings for each other. The Ross and Rachel story arc was always my least favorite part, partially because I didn’t think the two had any chemistry.

Aside from Matt LeBlanc, none of them really gave off a vibe of joy. I believe them when they say they were / are still close at heart, but I think the fans were vastly more jazzed about this show.

I’m embarrassed to say how much the duet with Lisa Kudrow and Lady Gaga made me tear up. I have always been “the different one”. Coworkers called me “Phoebe” (and just as often “Weird Girl”).

I think all of them look pretty good, even Matthew Perry (though it’s clear he’s been through a lot over the years). Jennifer Aniston still has the body, hair and skin of someone much younger (must be the Aveeno!) but something about her face makes her look kind of . . . angry(?)

Elliott Gould is still alive?!

Elliott Gould is far too awesome to die.

Agreed. It was a very pleasant surprise.

But Joey explained that.

Hee! I forgot about that theory. But, that would only be applicable if they were actually doin’ it offstage and they say they never did.
Anyway, maybe it would be more accurate to say neither of them appealed to me (as the seasons progressed I grew to like Ross; Rachel not so much).

On the one hand, that bugged me. He had a job. The answer wasn’t that he didn’t have one. But any time something like this comes up, where cast members of a show are quizzed on their own show, I have to remind myself that, at least in general, they haven’t watched their own show dozens of times like their fans have. There was another reunion type show (or at least several members of a show on a talk show) and the host would read a quote from the show and they had to finish it. No problem for fans, but they struggled with it a bit.

Having said that, you’d think Jennifer Aniston would remember that not only was ‘transponster’ wasn’t the right answer, it’s the wrong answer that cost them the apartment.

That seems like a load of crap. However, depending on how bad his addiction got, it’s also entirely possible he was 100% clean and sober, but just burned out. Seems to me, if they wanted to sell that line, they’d have leaked it to TMZ a few hours before they shot it.

I knew he was alive, but my god, did he look like he was about 150 years old. The last thing I saw him in was Ray Donovan, and while that was 7 or 8 years ago, he looked ‘fine’ then.

He had a tiny, tiny little bit in Ocean’s 8 a few years ago. He looked like he did in the other Ocean’s movies.

I watched Friends for the first time 3 years ago, when I was recovering from surgery. It was perfect for someone on painkillers: funny, upbeat, and easy to follow. Then I got the complete set of DVD’s and watched the rest. It was a great show.

I have to say, though, that getting $2-3 million for sitting around like guests on a talk show seems like a pretty sweet gig for them, but not like something I’d be excited about watching. In fact, I’m sure you can watch interviews with them on youtube. Those of you who watched, what made it enjoyable for you?

Enjoyable isn’t the right word. It was closer to bittersweet. The part with James Cordon was just a typical talk show panel type thing (and I was hoping, before he did it, that they’d shut off the fountain). Lot of ‘behind the scenes’ type stuff. Things like Courtney having scripts hidden around the set, Matt LeBlanc dislocating a shoulder etc. Also, you’ll note, most surprise guests in the audience were announced before James would ask a question to the cast about them. Presumably, to prevent them from saying something stupid.

However, watching them, now, run lines intermixed with the actual scene…that was enough to make anyone cry.

BTW, I truly thought Larry Hankin died shortly after Breaking Bad, but his IMDB page shows that he’s still quite busy. Wonder who I’m thinking of. Larry was the guy at the junkyard, right?

Fair point. And, for me, the interview segment with James Corden was the least special part. Maybe, like the show itself, it’s mostly appealing to folks who were big fans when it was first run (?) There’s (obviously) a big nostalgia factor.

Aside from this board, I never get to reminisce about the show. For whatever reasons, no one in my current life watched / watches it, so it was fun having a kind of big, elaborate “conversation” about it. Remembering “Pivot!” with Kit Harrington and “The Routine” with Malala is fun. Watching Lady Gaga perform Smelly Cat with Lisa Kudrow absolutely made my day.
