Friends reunion in May

Yeah, this sounds like far more than typical job oriented pressure that many people may feel. I don’t think he was being dramatic, that was some of the reality coming through. He can be quite funny, and he might otherwise be a wonderful person, but I can all too well understand how the things you can’t control about yourself can still haunt you even as you find success that others envy. The whole world can look very different when seen through the other side of another’s eyes.

That’s certainly true. Even professional success beyond your wildest dreams is no guarantee of happiness and fulfillment.

Gunther gonna die.

No, it would have been someone that looked like Larry, not someone he was in something else with. I’ve been familiar with Robert Forster since Jackie Brown. To me, he’s never been one of those ‘actors that pop up here and there but I don’t know their names’, but he pops up on those lists from time to time.

I probably just misremembered.

Something I’ve mentioned in the past is that when I watch Friends bloopers, when someone does something wrong and everyone laughs about it, Matt would do the exact same thing, but hugely exaggerated on the next take. For example, Courtney accidentally glanced at the camera, on the next take Matt said his entire line into the camera (breaking the 4th wall style) until someone noticed. While not specifically addressing that, he did bring up the behavior mentioning that if someone did something that got a laugh he had to make sure he got a laugh as well. In fact, they played the scene with Joey tripping trying to find his mark and it included a great example of Chandler trying monopolize on Joey doing something funny (Chandler running in and sitting in his chair first).

I would probably have put it in a better tone, but sad to see. I had been wondering why he wasn’t at the reunion in person. A person in his condition probably would not have wanted to go out to begin with, let alone during a pandemic.

Here’s hoping anyway.

Yes, here’s a full recovery for the poor guy, if at all possible. Always enjoyed him as Gunther.

“Here’s to,” that is.

And see:

I finally got around to watching this tonight. I tend to be uncynical about these things and go along for the ride, and I enjoyed it end to end, and teared up in some places. Their obvious affection for each other, and the sort of rhythm they strike when they’re all talking together, are just very fun to watch.
