Friends, Romans, Countrymen... send me your clocks

hey everyone! I’m currently working on my violin project (for those who remember when I was asking if anyone had a violin they didn’t want that I could cut in half) and planning for my next project. Both of these have to be done by the end of the first week of December, by the way.

Anyhow, for part of this project I am building a turtle out of clocks and watches. So I’ll be scouring thrift shops and such, but I figured It can’t hurt to see if anyone had any broken clocks or watches (analog only–not looking for digital) they were just going to chuck out that they’d be willing to donate in the name of art? I can pay shipping (unless it’s crazy expensive, in which case your clock is probably too big anyway)

The whole turtle will be probably about a foot across, and I would like to have at least a few clocks in the 4"-8" range…

Anyway, anybody have any clocks you want to get rid of?

I have a wall clock. It’s brand new and very nice looking–though not particularly expensive, but doesn’t keep time worth crap (regardless of fresh batteries!)

Heh, I just happen to have a broken analog wristwatch that I was just about to throw out. It’s not an especially nice one (it cost me about $40 when I bought it in 2005), but it’s special in that I have managed to accidentally drop it in nearly every major body of water I’ve been to, including the Puget Sound, Lake Erie, Lake Michigan, and Lake George (in New York). So it’s quite the traveler, having been dunked from one side of this country to the other. It’s been a trooper, too; it only recently stopped working.

(Actually, I think the battery is probably just dead, but it’s also fairly scratched and it has samples from all the aforementioned bodies of water trapped under the face.)

I’d be happy to send it along so that it can find a meaningful existence as a work of art. If you happen to live near a lake that it hasn’t experienced yet, though, you might want to give it a quick dunk first for old times’ sake.

Man, I have a drawer full of watches that need batteries. I’d be happy to send you some if you’ll send me a picture of the finished project. PM me with your address and I’ll ups you some. Tell me how many you would like.

Shipping is on me.

OOPS! I didn’t realize it was you. Make that Maam.

You may find some in a charity shop for less than you would pay for shipping.

Harmonious Discord: Yeah I’m already going to hit up the thrift stores, I just figured I’d ask here as well.

Stealth Potato: you say it’s already been in Lake Erie, so maybe I could just leave it in the rain or something…

Omegaman: thank you! And I’ll definitely post a picture of the finished thing. (I’m going to post a picture of the violin thing I’m doing when I finish that, too.)

Sorry no timepieces here (I’ll keep my eye out), but I love turtles so please post pics when you’re done with your project!

is jumping up and down happy
I just got a box of watches from Omegaman and they’re awesome!! They’re even better than I had hoped. They’re all different and interesting and unique… giddy

Thank you so much!
