Frightened by Twin peaks!

Hi all

I just watched the pilot episode of Twin peaks last night, and i just about shit the bed when it was over. I have not been that spooked in a long time! I really don’t think I can watch anymore of the episodes! Is it more of that spooky scary stuff. or will it lighten up a little. The final scene was what really got me…

SPOILER
Laura’s mom seemingly waking up from a dream and flipping right out into the camera and then flashing back and fourth between that and someone taking the locket out of the dirt…Its really in my brain, Not to mention that bugging flight of stairs and ceiling fan! eeep! I’m getting the heebs just thinking about it.

So should i just throw in the towel to this really great show (i loved the rest of the show, Cooper is hilarious) or will this be too much for me to take!

There is a very uncomfortable undercurrent running through Twin Peaks, which makes it so great.
But the first episode is probably the scariest as it is one of the episodes that was directed by David Lynch himself.
It is definitely worth your while to watch the entire series, even if most people hate the second part of the second season.
Especially the final episode is almost universally hated (I loved it).

This show is amazing. I haven’t seen the second season, only the first, though. But what I have seen, I have enjoyed tremendously. The stylistic elements of the show (set design, color, lighting) are unquestionably unique, and the dialog, like most of Lynch’s movies, has just enough humor in it to break up the tension. Without a doubt, my favorite TV show.

Then you have not yet seen one of the single most disturbing scenes ever broadcast on television. Which I of course will not spoil for you, won’t even spoiler box it to help you resist temptation, but everyone reading this who’s seen it knows exactly what scene I’m talking about. You must get your hands on season two ASAP. It still, unbelievably, is not out on DVD in the US but it is available on VHS.

To the OP, most of the show is not as flat out scary as the pilot and much of it is infused with a very wry sense of humor. If you liked the pilot other than being scared by the ending then you’ll definitely want to see the rest of the show. There is also a prequel film, Fire Walk With Me, which you will also want to see but not until after you’ve seen the series as the movie spoils the central mystery of Who Killed Laura Palmer.

I haven’t even seen all of the episodes, but I am pretty sure which one you are talking about - my sister actually called me into the room to show it to me.

I really don’t know if i can do this…I’m here reading as much as i can so i can get a feel for how scary the rest of the show is…People lurking around, Walking on furniture, Dopplegangers chasing each other and someone coming up from the bottom of the screen. My poor heart!!

I swear I saw Mama’s Family out on DVD. Why oh why for the love of hell is Twin Peaks season two still not out?!

Is is available somehow on the Internet, in decent quality and with the English soundtrack? I don’t know how the DVD regions work really.

Scary? Not really. Creepy – extremely. Great show.

But remember: the final episode was not intended to be the series finale. It was merely a season finale. People tend to overlook that.

There is a difference: a series finale tries to wrap up everything; a season finale wraps up a few things, but leaves other things open-ended for the next season. The final episode is the latter: the last scene was planned as being the start of the third season’s mystery. But the show was cancelled and there was no third season.

Season two is finally coming out on DVD this spring; it’s one of the most delayed and most caught up in red tape DVD releases out there, having been continually delayed and bickered over and rescheduled since 2001 or so.

Amen, brother - I just got the heebie jeebies just thinking about it.

If i was scared by the pilot ill probably barf when i see this scene in question.

I’ll believe it immediately after seeing (S2 finale spoiler) “Where’s Annie?” on my home television screen. Seems like every few months someone announces the imminent release of S2. Last time I remember checking Amazon had an “expected release date” of 2002.

Same here. Lord, I remember watching that scene and it just. kept. getting. awfuler. and. awfuler. The only other scene I can recall that comes close is, from all places, Melrose Place, when Kimberly clutches her head in pain and pulls off that wig to reveal that horrific scar! and that was mostly shock value as opposed to the dread of the TP scene.

Yes, you probably will. You should still watch it, though.

I dont know if i buy that logic…I have a really powerful imagination

According to a chat Sherilyn Fenn did on AOL after the show ended (spoilers for S2 and plot elements of S3): Audrey would have survived the explosion at the bank and Cooper would have been BOBbed for the entire season.

percussion, con’t let us talk you out of the show. The truly disturbing moments really aren’t that frequent and the overall quality of the show, even if you get disturbed or even ill from a scene or two, makes it worth it.

Just don’t eat for a couple of hours beforehand.

Twin Peaks Season 2 is due out April 10, 2007. It’s available for pre-order here at Amazon and at other retailers.

Yeah, there are some scenes that are extra super creepy, but the show is well worth it. Just watch with the lights on, and maybe during the day.

Another vote for watching it all. The first season was brilliantly creepy and should be watched and savored in its entirety. The second season, and Fire Walk With Me, are uneven at best and craptastic at worst, but should be seen by any true devotee.

Please tell us in a spoiler box, Otto. What “single most disturbing scene” do you mean? I have an inkling, but want to be sure. Thanks!

Ill probably have to watch it with my mom

I find it hard to believe that anyone wouldn’t guess instantly, and I warn all of you who haven’t seen season 2, do not read this spoiler!

I mean the scene in which we learn who killed Laura by watching him kill Maddie.

And as I type this, the Twin Peaks theme comes up on shuffle on my iPod…
