I’ve heard a lot about this show, but I’ve never seen an episode of it before. I was only a 7th grader when it aired, and my parents were a lot more uptight then they were by the time my brother was that old…I was in bed by the time it came on
And every time it’s been aired in syndication in the past 12 years it has not been on channels I’ve gotten (I know it’s been DVD for a year or so, but I’m one of those people who cringe at the idea of buying something I’ve never seen before)
But we got Bravo in May, and that’s the channel showing it beginning this week I hope it’s worth the wait to see it.
Unfortunately, there aren’t episode titles/details for most of the episodes, although it seems that they are airing the entire first season at once given the number of episodes between titled ones. Anyway, here’s the schedule EST.

So…if anyone wants to watch along with me, maybe this could be a thread for dicussing the show, as long as spoiler boxes are used when dicussing anything beyond the first season the first week.
you’re in for a treat. Set the VCR. Look for Angelo Baldalementi’s (not sure if spelled right) sound track in your music store- wonderful music coupled with Julee Cruise’s haunting voice.
A great show – I have the whole thing on VHS tapes from Halloween '96 when Bravo did a similar marathon and they’re starting to get worn out, as I rewatch the entire run of the show once or twice a year. You’re in for a treat.
Thanks for the heads up! I’m going to re-tape the pilot, as my VHS copy dates from when it originally aired and it is wearing out. I love Twin Peaks, especially the first season.
BTW, anyone know when the rest of the series will be released on Artisan DVD?
The last time it was on a friend left me a chilling message which consisted of nothing but her repeating over, and over, "hurting me . . . hurting me . . . hurting me . . . "
Best. Show. Ever. My tapes from Worldvision are quite destroyed from repeated viewings, and it is too painful to know that the rest of the series is not yet out on DVD. Grrr…
Just checked Amazon and there’s no release date. Last time I looked there was an incomplete note indicating that season two was going to be released in two installments, the first of which was due either this year or early next year. I truly hope that the second season is not released in that fashion. Just put out all the eps at once.
Oh, and here’s that note I couldn’t find eight seconds ago and just did. Looks like season two eps 1-11 should be in stores next month. It’s been too long since I watched the full series, but is ep 11 when we get resolution on “Who Killed Laura Palmer”? That would be the natural break in season 2.
Whenever I watch the series I’m fine until one particular scene (not even a violent one) where you-know-who is coming at you and climbs over a couch. After that scene I can’t take a shower for three or four days because I know I’ll have to close my eyes when I shampoo my hair and while I do, he/she’s going to get me.
I looked at one of the online episode guides and it seems that, by breaking after 11, they are trying to break after the LP story wraps up. (Obviously, there are spoilers at that link.)
If you plan on taping all the episodes, and plan to tape them in EP (6hr) speed, don’t skimp on this one. Use the best tape and tape it in SP. It’s worth it, honest! It isn’t on DVD in America. I have two different DVD releases, but they’re both from Asia (no, not bootlegs, official releases). There’s some kind of rights issue snafu that’s keeping the Pilot from being released on DVD in North America.
Have fun! I love this show. I taped it when it was first aired, then taped the Bravo repeats several years ago, then bought the DVDs. I’m looking forward to getting the 2nd season on DVD. We were crazy nuts about the series, belonging to discussion groups and such, and we even set up a trip to London so that we would be able to watch that week’s episode in a youth hostel (sure, we had the VCR set at home, but we really really wanted to watch it while we were there on vacation). We found out how even the crappiest PAL TV set looks so much more incredible than our dull, blah NTSC. We noticed things we’d never seen before, such as that it’s snowing in the opening credits when the Falls are shown. Everything is just more vibrant in PAL.
I’ve hosted several all day “Twin Peaks marathons” before, showing the entire 1st season on our big screen. I miss those days. They were a lot of fun.
I’m a fan who loved it right up until the very end, wheras many “fans” lost interest after 2 specific incidents they couldn’t handle. I always thought it was silly to go along with what Lynch was giving us, until he pulls a classic “Lynch” and then not accept that. Accept it all or accept nothing. Don’t even start watching if you’re (the proverbial you’re) going to impose your own sensibilities and “rules” on how Lynch should or should not proceed.
These are the incidents. There are no spoilers, such as who killed Laura, but I’m putting this in spoiler tags anyway.
1. When the first season ended and the killer was not revealed, many people revolted. Just because they got together and had parties and gatherings to watch the last episode doesn’t mean that they had a legitimate bitch when it didn’t turn out the way they wanted, all solved and tidy. You can’t imagine the publicity that episode got, but it wasn’t Lynch’s fault that people expected something they didn’t get. For one, each episode is only one day in the Twin Peaks universe, and very few crimes are solved in just a few days. People seemed to forget that. Silly people. Two, THIS IS DAVID LYNCH! He’s made a career out of doing things that are unexpected. Deal! Sadly, many people couldn’t.
When the killer WAS revealed, many people quit watching for reasons that would be a spoiler if I revealed them. All I can say is that Twin Peaks was always about far more than “who killed Laura Palmer” and those people totally missed that. Also, THIS IS DAVID LYNCH! He’s made a career out of doing things that are unexpected. Deal! Sadly, many people couldn’t.
Please clarify (my teevee guide is kinda ambiguous)…I want to get this right so I can tape it properly.
The two-hour pilot episode runs from 8 to 10 tonight, followed by an hour of Larry King or some shit, then starts up again with episode one and goes through the entire first season?
I’m sitting here in Chicago watching the Pilot. I’ve seen this thing a couple dozen times and I still cry like a baby when they find Laura’s body and when Donna realizes she’s dead. It’s still as powerful as ever. The music, the look, the atmostphere, the weird humor, the emotions…damn!
