I believe it was our universe sometime after 2021, because:
The WTC was still standing in the red universe.
and
The WTC memorial said “Never Forget: September 11, 2001 / September 11, 2021 Memorial”
Then Peter gazed upon the new Tower on ground zero.
As for the other stuff, apparently we’re at war… Perhaps against the red universe.
I think the Machine caused Peter’s consciousness to be transported into his own body some 10 years into the future, which has to be Observer tech, yes?
Well, Peter’s the only one in the future, or at least his mind is. I think when he got in that machine it did two things, merged the universes and sent his mind to the future. I imagine the finale will be about him trying to undo the damage. This way we get see what would happen if the machine was activated, but they can still undo it.
Yeah, that’s the one they showed at the end of the recent episode.
It seems like they’re going to try and pack a lot stuff into an hour…or with commercials, more like 45 minutes or so. One thing I’ve read a few times is that it will end on a cliff hanger. But I guess that’s to be expected.
I had the same thought, but as I was watching, I couldn’t be sure if they were aging him, or it was “battle” makeup. The more I think about it, I think they did age him… if so, it looked good. I watched that ending twice even, to try and absorb everything.
I wonder if Peter’s mind has been altered by the machine. In this last episode, he thought he was from the red universe when he was in his fugue. And that was just from touching the machine. Maybe the machine has merged the Peter he would have been had he never been kidnapped, with the Peter as we know him? So, he’s this person with feelings and memories for both sides?
Also, about Astrid. Mentioning she had to go into the field with Fringe Division. It’s hard to know what that means until the story unravels further, but it looks like they’re really shaking things up for next season. Interesting, but I hope it doesn’t fuck with the chemistry I’m currently enjoying with these characters. I think Astrid and Walter’s relationship is really endearing. With Walter in shackles, it makes me think the red universe has taken over ours: Maybe Walternate has imprisoned him for the crimes of not only kidnapping Peter, but almost destroying both universes?
In the other trailer there’s one scene where Walternate tells Peter, “You destroyed my universe son, and I’m going to destroy yours.” So I don’t think Peter and Walternate would be buddy-buddy.
However, from a couple of short interviews with John Noble
He basically hints that Walter and Walternate will join forces to save both worlds. So in that case I can’t see Walter being imprisoned.
