Rather than pushing my luck and bumping this GQ thread about my niece’s hip dysplasia, I’m posting this (in the right forum, even!).
I saw my niece in her harness today; she has to wear the harness for four months. After that, she’ll likely be fine. Or, as my brother said, as fine as anyone born into our family could be. I think the hardest part for my sister is letting go of what she thought the first few months would be like. Since the baby can’t wear onesies (or really much of anything) with the harness, all her clothes were packed up and sent off to my other niece.
The harness holds the baby’s legs up in a froggy position. She kicks, frog like. I really, really, really want to buy her green things so she’ll look more like a frog. But that would be wrong, wouldn’t it?
I’d say that depends on what her mother thinks of the idea. And maybe a little time to get used to the whole thing. I’m thinking, once I got over the initial upset and worry, I might think it was an amusing idea to dress the little one in green once in a while. But then, I’ve never had to do anything like that.
Personally, I think it’s kind of funny, but then I’m a doper, which means I have no idea of what’s funny in the real world.
She can’t? I’m not trying to argue, I really don’t know. But there are a few pictures of babies in Pavlik harnesses wearing onesies. In fact, this medical site suggests a onesie or long undershirt be worn under the Pavlik harness.
I think a froggy outfit would be awesome, but I’ve been told I have a sick sense of humor, so that might not be an endorsement you want.
My sister had to wear one when she was a baby, and we called her froggy all the time. Do put the onsies on her, though! Oh my goodness, just thinking of the chafing is making me cry!
