"From the Desert to the Sea" - LA newscaster Jerry Dunphy dies. (I'm very sad)

Rest in Peace, Jerry Dunphy. We’ll all miss you. I’ll miss you. I grew up with you. Your white silvery hair and your greeting “From the desert to the sea to all of Southern California, Good evening” - well, it always got to me. I always knew that you’d be there, on one station or another. If it wasn’t KCBS (used to be KNXT) it was KABC, or KCAL. You got around, but you never left L.A.

Man - he was 80 years old. Still working as a newscaster. He had a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He sometimes did TV and movie spots, (playing a “newscaster”, of course). I even remember him in an episode of “Roseanne”, he was hilarious. Damn. What a cool guy. I’m gonna miss him.
KCAL’s tribute to him (where he was currently working).

…to all of Southern California…
goodnight.

I haven’t seen Jerry in years, but once you’ve seen him do the news, you’ll spot him everywhere else he pops up – he’s very distinctive.
