I have a 2009 Pontiac G5. The front speakers sometimes work, but most often don’t. I looked for an answer and found a message board for G5s but I only have access on my phone so the tech jargon and schematics are hard to follow.
Does anyone know about this apparently common problem with the G5 and, it seems, the Cobalt?
I hate to take it to the dealer. The speakers work. I’ve heard them occasionally
No aftermarket work has been done on anything.
If you’re a DIYer, pull the speaker grilles (or whole door panel if necessary) and check the wire attachments to the speakers. They’re probably spade connectors and may be loose or corroded.
If both front speakers are going out simultaneously, there is probably an issue with the head unit itself, since those speakers should be powered by separate (stereo) channels.
At any rate, I wouldn’t take the car to a dealer. I’d find a reputable stereo install shop and have them look at it.
