We obviously disagree about the meaning of the word “manipulation”.
Meh. It’s not that important, nor is it particularly relevant to this thread.

This is not evident at all. From what I’ve seen, Jewish Democrats like me are very, very angry at Israel right now. I won’t support a candidate in the primary who does not harshly criticize the Israeli government and military, barring a very unlikely serious of policy reversals by Israel. Polling I’ve seen suggests Democrats agree with me, in general, far more than they agree with Fetterman (for example) on Israel.
There is no single Jewish vote on this issue. Pretty split even literally among siblings. No question though that a hard line against Israel with “antizionist”, “apartheid”, and “genocide” as key phrases will lose many including many who feel strongly that funding must curtailed as the cudgel to constrain unacceptable actions. Probably the more strong supporters will accept tough talk less poorly from a Jewish politician.
An issue in primaries yes. Not going to be a major issue in the general election though. Economy will be the big subject. IMHO.
I think the salience of this issue for liberals is easy to underestimate. If a politician is parroting Netanyahu talking points, few voters are going to think “I feel strongly enough about Gaza that I won’t vote for this candidate, even if I like what they say about other issues”. But many voters will think “This guy is clearly willing to lie for the sake of money and/or ideology, so I’m not going to trust anything he says about anything.”
Yes. A Candidate can say he disagrees with Netanyahu’s policies, and that would usually be Okay. But as for attacking Israel, that would be bad.
As usual.
Hopefully - HOPEFULLY - Netanyahu will be gone by the end of 2026, and nobody will be parroting his talking points any more.
From your fingers to God’s eyes.
I would love for Israel not to be a major issue in the US elections.
Not sure any possible coalition would change current courses too much? Maybe able to implement more crackdown on the terrorism by West Bank settlers rather than the blind eye to assist? But coalition needs make that a stretch even.
Primary season it is still a likely wedge item that will be hard to hit notes that don’t divide to large degrees. Even with Bibi gone.
Moderating:
Ok, enough discussion about Israel and Netanyahu. Yes, it will be a factor in the 2028 election, to an extent not yet determined. Let’s move the discussion back to who will be frontrunners for the Democratic presidential nomination. Thanks.
