Fuck all you warmongering pieces of shit

Sure. Sail a ship into New York harbor and detonate a nuke.

The US will survive but that’s a pretty big threat anyway.

And setting the record for “F-bombs”, or derivations thereof, in a single paragraph! I had to include the one in the header, too, cause it’s so big and dark! LOL

The news definitely marred what otherwise was a wonderful 4-day weekend. Here we go again, and I’m sure higher prices and escalated terrorism will result, as it usually does.

Then Iran is not an existential threat to the US.

So based on this wacky, sci-fi worry, you’re willing to trust Netanyahu and Trump to accomplish a massively difficult task that could have huge unintended ramifications, threatening thousands of lives, and maybe much worse, including an accelerated nuke for Iran, if they get it wrong?

They also sailed one into LA and Miami and New Orleans and San Francisco. Just for starters. Maybe drove a few to Chicago and Dallas and Phoenix and Denver.

Nope. I am scared about all this.

Huh? Are you in favor of, or opposed to, the Netanyahu-Trump mass bombing of Iran? If you’re in favor of it, but it turns out it failed and Iran still has their material and expertise, then what do you advocate doing? Invade? Drop a nuke? More air strikes? Nothing?

First answer if you are ok with Iran having nukes. (You evaded the question when asked earlier)

No, Iran having nukes would be very bad.

I wish Trump had never ended the original treaty we had with Iran to stop them from getting nukes.

But he did and I think Iran needs to be prevented from obtaining nukes. Unfortunately, we are now left with little other recourse than to drop bombs on their nuclear facilities.

I am not aware that Iran is being “mass bombed.” Is Tehran being bombed out of existence?

For “mass bombings” how many missiles did Iran fire at Israeli cities? Not military stuff…just at cities.

You didn’t answer the second question (and I’ve asked it twice so far).

Here it is again - what if it failed (as seems quite likely)? What if Iran retains its knowledge and material and now has a renewed and strengthened desire for nukes? What then? Invade? Nuke Iran? More futile airstrikes? What?

I think they always had this desire. Is it “renewed and strengthened” now? Probably but I doubt that has any practical difference. They always wanted nukes. They still want nukes but even MORE now! So what?

The solution? There are no good ones. I suspect Iran will eventually manage getting nukes. The only way out is regime change to a much friendlier government and that seems very unlikely. I do not see a happy ending to any of this for anyone.

Then why the fuck do you support these bombings? They may only make things worse (and now the US is militarily culpable!). Negotiations worked before - maybe they would have worked this time, but Netanyahu and Trump fucked that up. Diplomacy is a whole lot less likely to work now.

Possibly, but not for the United States. The US has been a net exporter of petroleum products for a few years, but even at the height of that imbalance—~2004–05, during the prime “Operation Iraqi Liberation” years—only 17% of American imports came from the Persian Gulf. Last year it was under 10%, or somewhere around 1.5% of total American petroleum consumption. The Carter Doctrine always protected the stability of America’s European and Asian allies more than America itself—Carter’s Secretary of Defense, Harold Brown, acknowledged as much at the time.

To the extent that it would be “bad” if Iran was allowed to close the Strait of Hormuz to tanker traffic, American and I imagine Israeli posture towards Iran is “about oil” and capitalist pressure to privilege free trade over all other concerns. Not accusing you of implying this, but to the extent that “America secretly covets Iranian natural gas reserves”: get real. It can simultaneously be true that Iran has brought the lion’s share of its isolation on itself, and that Trump deciding to escalate the current conflict is bloody-minded, short-sighted, capricious, and ultimately self-destructive.

I don’t believe for a second that negotiations would have stopped Iran this time around. Iran would pretend and play nice and secretly build their nukes (or tip-toe so close to the line that the final step would be trivial and quick). Fordo was not built deep under a mountain because it is a peaceful place meant to make uranium for power plants.

Iran wants nukes. They mean to have them. They will not be deterred. Certainly moreso now but again…so what? They wanted them 100% before and now they want them 150%?

The previous deal was working. You’re just swallowing Netanyahu and Trump lies.

I already said I liked the deal we had before. Trump tore it up. That was the end of that road.

Because Trump and Netanyahu say so? Bullshit. It was only the end of that road once they decided to drop bombs.

We’ve been told that they are weeks or months away from having them for years now. If they wanted nukes and meant to have them, and were weeks away for the last decade, why don’t they have them? Why didn’t they get them during the first Trump administration after he tore up the agreement? During the Biden administration, when it was distracted by COVID and inflation?

Speaking of existential threats,

“Destroy the Iranians”? Pretty clear who is an existential to whom.
