Apparently Palin actually thinks this may be just be break the McCain campaign has been waiting for. What the fuck is wrong with her? President Obama said during the campaign that he wouldnt allow for his campaign to involve anyone's family, so Letterman can't make jokes about Palin 8 months later? I don
t think she knows that she lost.
That was Limbaugh.
…and that Letterman is a Democratic Party strategist, or something. How is he part of “the other side of the ticket”?
Liberal Media. Duh.
Gotcha Comedians!
No, it was Phil Hartmann.
It’s sad that people are attacking a child. Sarah Palin’s daughters are not Sarah Palin.
Apparently it was John McCain too.
That was the first Google hit for “chelsea clinton ugly”.
Bristol Palin is now 18, and as such no longer a child. I agree that she doesn’t deserve all the vitriol though (see above).
Are you talking about this sketch?* Your comments about Hartman are disgusting but it’d be nice if you would clue the rest of us in about what sketch you are fuming about.
*ETA: If so, you’ve confused Hartman for Julia Sweeney, and I’m not sure who should be insulted by that one.
When Sarah Palin’s daughter stays off the cover of People magazine with her Abstinence Only baby, then I’d say she’d cease being a target.
The republicans like to paint any of the Hollywood elite as out-of-touch liberals. If anyone that can be labeled as biased says anything remotely interperetable as bad taste about them they will show outrage. I’m not sure if an equivalent joke has been made about a liberal politicians child. Maybe Letterman made a joke about Al Gore’s kid.
It was a bad joke. It was in bad taste. Letterman brought it on himself. It is not at all clear that the joke isn’t about Willow except as a backtracking explanaition. Bristol was not at the baseball game, Willow was.
Bristol, however, is fair game. She had premarital sex, got pregnant, said publicly that abstinence only education doesn’t work, then suddenly joined the abstinence only bandwagon. That is a joke, and she has put herself in the public arena. She represents the abstinence movement the same way Romney represents the pro-life movement. Whatever position is politically convenient is the policy they stand for. Dems do it too.
Do you have a cite for her saying abstinence-only doesn’t work? Not arguing with you, just asking.
I think the cite you’re looking for is named Tripp.
Well, I thought she did at some point in Februrary, but I can’t find it. I could be mistaken about that, but I’ll keep looking. It doesn’t really change much.
I don’t remember which sketch it was in particular. I just remember there being Chelsea jokes on Saturday Night Live. I was a kid at the time and thought it was kind of harsh. Saturday Night Live was already horrible by that point so I don’t remember it THAT well. I just remember thinking how it must suck to be a young girl in the White House and have people making fun of you for it.
But you’re right, the judgment I made of him was pretty disgusting, but that’s how I felt at the time about it when it happened, so this is the first time I’ve really even thought about him since he died.
How credible is the last sentence here? I’d still like the source.
stands and applauds Some of the language in this thread is far more disgusting and misogynist than Letterman’s bad joke.
FWIW, I have a vague recollection of a *Wayne’s World *sketch in which Myers and Carvey made fun of Chelsea Clinton’s looks, then tried to make it okay by referring to her at the end of the sketch as a “babe in waiting”. This was not too long after Limbaugh’s TV show ‘accidentally’ put up a photo of Chelsea in place of the ‘White House dog’.
Wait…here’s info from Wiki:
“In a November 21, 1992 Wayne’s World sketch, the characters Wayne and Garth (respectively portrayed by Mike Myers and Dana Carvey) made fun of Chelsea Clinton (the-then 12-year old daughter of the then President-Elect Bill Clinton), implying that Chelsea was incapable of causing males to “Schwing!”. This joke was subsequently edited out of all repeats and syndication rebroadcasts of this sketch.[13]”
Nobody is “attacking” anybody. a Joke is not an attack. And the joke was about Sara Palin who last time I checked was not a child. Immature yes, child no.
