Words fail me . Once again a nation that has once played a major role in modern history to advance the favourable ideals and concepts of a just society has demonstrated its complete disregard for the legitimate security concerns for other western nations and I daresay itself.
Al-Manar is a Hezbollah funded tv station broadcasting to 25 countries from France.
It caused an uproar last year when it broadcast a scene depicting the murder of a Jewish child for the use of its blood to make matzot. The scene was part of a series based on the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion”. Their licence was up for renewal last November, but based on a promise to cease broadcasting hate they secured the right to continue broadcasting.
However, since then Al-Manar has continued broadcasting a TV game show where the winner is " given the honor of symbolically entering Jerusalem to liberate it from the Zionists. "
This decision is suicidal for France. Any broadcast organ in Europe that is dedicated to racism and anti-western influence, funded by Syria and the mullahs of Iran, is bound to rouse the disaffected muslim populations of Europe against jews and against western ideals. If France wakes up in the future, the muslim backlash may well be more severe.
Keep in mind that Hezbollah has never been taken to task for murdering 241 Americans in Beirut back in 82.
How on earth can anyone expect an American president to put much weight on basing its foreign policy on French approval ?
241 American marines. They didn’t kill any civilians. They declared themselves a guerilla group dedicated to eliminating the American and Israeli occupation of Lebanon and began attacks against legitimate military targets. To call it murder is stretching the definition of the word.
Strawman. Nobody expects an American president to actually base it’s foreign policy on French approval. If an American president actually had firm, clear evidence that a country was intending to attack the United States and could clearly prove it, I doubt that anyone except the most radical zealots would quibble with the American president doing what he must to protect the country.
All of this is more pathetic conservative attempts to smear anyone who opposed the US war in Iraq, where the country in question was not a threat to the United States, had no connections to an attack on the United States, and had no means to attack the United States.
I thought it was supposed to be the blood of a Christian child? Seems odd that virulent anti-Semites would get all that stirred up over the murder of a Jew by other Jews. But then, that mindset is pretty foreign to me in general.

While the tv show you talk about is certainly revolting and most likely dangerous, I fail to see how this colors the ultimate political landscape between us and france.

Personally I wouldn’t want it too easy for the gov’t to ban an entire TV channel based on content. That said if the channel continues its behavior in violation of its agreement with the gov’t, I would hope they would eventually have thier liscence pulled.
Does Hexbollah run the TV station, or are we just ending our posts with random examples of musliums killing christians? I don’t think that will do much to incite rational diologue, but whatever.

No, no. He’s a Canadian conservative. Canadians don’t mind hate speech laws. Heck, Fox News told me that Canadians don’t even have freedom of speech. Neither does any other country, except America and Iraq. And sometimes the UK and Australia when they agree with us.

Oh, we don’t. Anyone expressing disapproval of any government action is “disappeared”, never to be heard from again. However, the space aliens that rule us replace the disappeared person with an alien doppelganger so that no one notices. The doppelgangers are so convincing that they actually continue to express disapproval of the government, because abruptly stopping such behaviour would raise suspicions. It’s a very insidious practice.

For a few days there the top threads had titles like “[This poster] committed an act that was rude” and “[That poster] is a dumdum”, and I was like "JESUS Q. I think most here believe in freedom of speech. It still doesn’t allow me to describe to anyone how best to kill someone and not get caught. Nor can I call for anyone to commit an illegal act. Nor can I wish death on anyone, even if I take no actual steps to make it happen.
Call any Federal office in the morning and tell them you want to see the President dead. See how far freedom of speech gets you in court.

I don’t want soldiers killed. I hate that soldiers are being killed. But there’s a massive difference between murder, and attacking an occupying army. Here’s a hint, one’s legal, one’s not.
I can make an argument about soldiers being killed in Iraq, because they should all be alive since they shouldn’t have fucking been there in the first place. But I’m not going to go around pretending the insurgents are war criminals for fighting back against them.
I’m so tired of this bullshit hate for France, Freedom Fries and all that shit. I just read this week that the France intelligence services gave crucial help to the Americans in helping prevent further terrorists attacks. Why can’t Americans ever be thankful for that?
