I read this and bear them no animosity. It’s really a very tactful and well constructed message because it assumes I’m not stupid (yes, I know about licensing agreements, etc.) and because it correctly assumes that the viewer will be slightly pissed when they discover that instead of watching the video they came to see they are instead watching this crappy message. Then they actually invite criticism for an aspect of their site that they’ve already told you is out of their hands.
Perfect. (Well, not perfect but a nice letdown)
But hulu has to fucking lie.
No hulu, you are wrong. The requested video can be displayed in my region. Just not by fucking you.
Er, I think you’re reading too much of a difference between “we can’t play this video in your region,” and “this video can’t be played in your region.”
Hulu’s boilerplate is fine, IMHO. And, their customer base is slightly more diverse than adult swim, so the hip, sarcastic-type message is probably not up their alley.
So, basically I agree with you, this pitting is lame.
Well, if you’d move to the bestest country in the whole world instead of living with all the other stupid, ugly smelly ferrinners, this wouldn’t be a problem.
…
Or, you know, you could stop and think that it’s pointless to get mad at Hulu for following international copyright and for not including some dumb note that strokes your hurt ego. Besides that, how many BBC (if you’re in the UK) or Canadian (if you’re in Canada) shows can you watch that we in America can’t? I get the same message if I try to use the BBC’s video player as you do.
Of course, you’re the one missing out on what is obviously the best TV in the whole world while I’m just losing out on a curiosity. So I’d be pissed if I were in your shoes too.
FYI, Ofcom is officially investigating Hulu, so it’s being seriously considered for a launch in the UK. Media advertisers are shitting themselves with terror.
Psst! Dude, come on!
Question #1 - How do you think they know where you are?
You IP address!
Question #2 - What can you do to see the shows you want? I watch shows and sports events from all over the world using these three methods.
Use a proxy IP or watch episodes with live streaming P2P software or download the episodes using P2P file sharing. (usually posted within an hour of the original broadcast)
Supposedly you can still do it if you install something like TVersity on your PC. Granted, this then would need you to have both your PS3 and your PC running to play them on your PS3, but hey, at least you get to stick it to the man.
Mind you, I can’t vouch for it working, as I don’t own a PS3.
You know what’s fucking annoying? I was trying to watch the latest Bones on Hulu, and it was stuttering, so I tried it on Fox’s player. And of course I had to fast forward to where I was in the Hulu broadcast. Only, Fox has those annoying animated advertisements at the bottom of the screen, right where the controls are. So when you try to hit “play” after fast forwarding, all it does is open a million windows of the ad you evidently clicked. So it’s, you know, totally fucking broken. And it was promised that it wouldn’t skip or stutter, and it totally stutters. Plus doesn’t work.
