Fuck it

Hey, SBSO…where are you? Did you convert your shop over to sell small Algerians, or what?

How would that get him more attention?

Oh Og, no…please no quotes from the least amusing subplot in Arrested Development. (On the other hand, Mentally Retardard Female might go a at least 2/3 the way toward describing the o.p.)

You don’t need to be banned, mate - you just seem a little over-enthusiastic is all. What I’m seeing is that you’re the new bloke, you’re keen to make an impression here, and so you’re starting off with a hiss and a roar. Most of what I’ve seen of your threads don’t strike me as particularly malicious or stupid, just a little ill-thought out, like the “Series Of Interesting Threads”, or misplaced, like the pitting of Cafe Society for being too lowbrow: there was the kernel of a good thread topic there; it just needed to be thought out a little better and presented in a less inflammatory style. My advice would be to pull your horns in a little: stop starting so many threads, and maybe take a bit of time to do a bit more reading and figure out the etiquette around here a bit - what does go down well, and what pushes people’s buttons. You seem like you do have a good deal to contribute here; you just need to polish your presentation and delivery a little and you’ll fit in just fine.

Omegaman, you’re not just trying, you’re doing!

Peace be with you also.

Small British Shop Owner, if you really want to participate here, may I suggest that you stay out of the Pit for a while and maybe even out of Great Debates. Get to know us before tearing us a new one. Post in other people’s threads more. This really is a good Message Board and an unusual one.

I have to echo Zoe, and wish I thought of it first. I tried GD before I was ready and felt like I was in a pit of vipers. I am just now getting comfortable with the Pit. As others have suggested, you will find the norms of this Board and have fun. I hope you stick around. We really need all types who can observe the norms of the Board.

And I would be willing to bet that the only people on whom you lift your hind leg are those you haven’t met IRL, and BTW I would have sworn you were a squatter, go figure.

So you’re using the anonymity of a message board to rag on people for using the anonymity of a message board to rag on someone else? The irony. Oh yes, but youre a badass who would do so in person as well, I know. And what, do you run the Boots next door?

High handed talk, for a guy who completely loses his shit when someone in Cafe Society isn’t properly deferential to Robert DeNiro. At least the jackals in this thread know how to keep it in the right forum.

You know, I’ve had good posts and threads, and I’ve had bad posts and threads. To quote whatshisname, “I’ve seen fire, and I’ve seen rain. . .”. But when the ‘worst of it got to me’, I realized that I was dealing language in a bunch of electrons.

. . . thats when I realized I could turn the computer off and go play outside.

You wanna make yourself some sort of attention whore of a board of which you just joined? Fine. You wanna link your own posts in a thread to make easier to find? Whatever. You wanna “act made” before you are? Um, sure. . .

We ain’t some secret cabal, but we have conversations. Conversations ‘online’. The ‘online’ nature tends to haunt you because people can go back and read what you wrote verbatim. If you can’t handle that, well, deal. . . or quit posting. Especially in such prolific ‘whinery’.

SBSO, suck it up, Princess.

Well, my doctor has recommended that I sit while peeing. He says I’m not supposed to be lifting heavy objects.

The Wee Br__ain joke fit so well though…

Look, if someone, let’s say a friend of a friend you hardly know or don’t know at all, came in to your house and started bitching about the tidiness of your kitchen, your DVD collection and the books you read, I bet you wouldn’t be real friendly. Probably pretty icy.

I haven’t got any problem telling SBSO that he/she’s a fuckhead because I’ve been there and done that In Real Life. You think my books are lowbrow? Great. Tell me why and, while we’re at it, tell me why your book preferences are better. Can’t? Fine. Shut. The fuck. Up.

Don’t like Cafe Society? Fine. Tell us how to fix it. Can’t? Fine. Shut. The fuck. Up.

Arrogant or troll? Arrogant or troll? Arrogant or troll?..both?

The best way to stop being accused of being a troll is to stop posting baiting OP’s, not posting more.

I resent that! I’m more than electrons: I’m protons and neutrons too.

Trarrollagant.

You know this is tiresome. I read the guys post and frankly I agree with it. The vast majority of the subjects there are kind of lowbrow. BUT, so am I so it doesn’t bother me. If the majority of the subjects were about philosophy, great 19th century composers, writers, painters, sculptors or whatever highbrow subjects might be discussed I would never have joined and certainly would never enter that site. It doesn’t make him a troll for mentioning it and it doesn’t make him a jerk. He is just someone with an opinion. I happen to like Robert Deniro, someone else thinks he is a whore, not fodder for one of the great intellectual arguments. It is lowbrow and that is why I like it. The OP didn’t really feel strongly enough about the issue to pit it strongly, and since he is a newbie I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and leave him alone for writing such a lame pit. The subject headings are not 100% clear to everyone the first day they arrive here. What is clear though is that an awful lot of posters get off on correcting minor inconsequential errors that have no bearing on an argument’s effectiveness and another group loves to pounce on anyone that they feel intellectually superior to. I have been guilty of it myself. It is not a good quality.

Hey, was that all just completely fictional, or is there really such a place as “Wee Britain” somewhere where a Mary Poppins doll slides down a wire like Tinkerbell does at Disneyland?

Writing off stuff as being “lowbrow” just because it concerns pop culture rather than baroque chamber music or some other suitably high-brow, tweed-suited, wood-paneled, pipe-smoking thing strikes me as unbearably pretentious. Starting a whole thread to do so, and posting a contentless and cryptic OP, demonstrates very poor manners. And doing all of this while still a guest on the forum is a recipe for everyone thinking you’re a shmuck.

That whole thread reminded me of a fucking Monty Python sketch or something. I think it was ridiculous and arrogant. Sure, it’s just an opinion, but it’s an opinion that makes me think he’s a jerk.

Now, is Monty Python highbrow or lowbrow…

Yeah, people who heap scorn on others anonymously are yellow-bellied incest-loving Bush-voting timecube-pondering FUCKERS!
As for the OP, I noticed he had a tendency to start a thread on a whim, and if he bothered to participate in it at all, it was just to keep restating his premise as though, duh, that rendered all objections moot.

Or at least that’s how it looked in the relatively few threads of his I took part in.
