red_dragon, I don’t know about you, but for me Morpheus sprouts pop-ups aplenty.
airdisc,
That was a pretty decent pit rant for a person so new to posting here.
Rates an 8.4 in my book.
It had groove, it had feeling, and nice invectives, but you lost major points over the “bye, bye, bye” part of your program.
Sorry about that, I should have checked out the link first.
I do already use Ad-aware and when I tried it for the Kazaa Spyware it did not remove the Cydoor files. Other people may have the same problem and if so, the site I listed may help.
Jazzmine, you probably have to update your Ad-Aware reference file. There’s an app on the site where you dload Kazaa you can get that will update it for you. I think it’s called “refupdate”.
Limewire sucks ass. Bearshare is OK if you remember to uncheck the third party software when you install it. It serves my downloadin’ needs, and that ranged from the Revolting Cocks to a Tori Amos/Leonard Cohen duet and on.

You might want to get the latest version of Ad-Aware. The refupdate program is very useful. For a while each time that I updated Ad-Aware it would catch some more stuff that Kazaa installed on my computer. The last version of Kazaa installs over 200 pieces of spyware.
Yeah, but you have to replace the real cydor with the fake one so Grokster/Kazza will still run.

I migrated to kazaa after napster closed, but it never caught on with me the same way that napster did even though it had resume and different media downloads and all that good stuff. Somehow it just didn’t have the same addictive spark that Napster did for some reason despite all of Napster’s disadvantages.
I did use it a lot for a while though. But now I hardly ever use it because a. the program crashes every 5 minutes and just about every time I try to play a video file I get ‘illegal operation this program will close down’ box.Agh!
b. Almost every file I try to download, I just get ‘more sources needed’ and it just sits there, forever. At least with napster even with transfer errors sending you back to the start again and again you got the song eventually! With KZ you just have ‘more sources needed’ for all of eternity. sod it, I’lll buy it in the shops before I get old!
c. It slows my browser so much, it just isn’t worth having it open. I like to surf the internet while downloading, but when it takes literally 40 minutes to open a page, it just isn’t worth it. Right click and exit program it is!
It’s a shame though, because there was tons of good stuff not commerically available on there. sigh
Oh and I got rid of the junk and Bonzi Buddy crap after being caught with it the first time I downloaded kz. I deleted and reinstalled and unchecked all those sneaky pre-checked ‘do you want to have these partner programs’ boxes. Job done!
In case nobody knows, airdisc is a much-loved and worshipped poster at the Something Awful forums, despite his relatively low post count over there. . . No doubt he came to the SDMB to escape the commotion.
Damn, darik beat me to it.
airdisc… 1 post that changed the face of the forums for all eternity. Or something. cough

I’m gonna have to give credit where credit is due for this line:
Great imagry. Welcome!
Major props to airdisc for the Jeff K reference. And huge thanks to mblackwell for the link to the fake Cydoor files.
If you use Ad-Aware to delete the real Cydoor files, Kazaa will refuse to load, even if you remove the registry entries. But after I installed the files at mblackwell’s link to my Windows/System directory, Kazaa comes right up, and no “cd_load” appears in my tasklist. Aaaahhhh…
*note, i dont know if someone has said this yet, stopped about halfway
when you install KazaA you can click custom install and uncheck the pop-ups, i use kazaa and have never gotten any popups or spyware.
Airdisc has a spikey orange dildo? HUH?
I wondered where I left that thing. Thanks for bringing it with you.
Welcome to the boards. airdisc.
[sub] I cought the JeffK ref too.
For the record, Limewire for the Mac works very well.
The most assfucksome part was that inane Cameron Diaz Wants You To Save The World ad. I open Kazaa and computer slows to crawl while Cameron’s babbling obscures whatever music I was listening to at the moment. And now they seem to have it’s reincarnation in that casino ad. I can tolerate ads, but speaking ads, that goes a bit too far.
I have nothing of importance to add, except that I have an orange dildo. Not spikey, tho.
www.audiogalaxy.com and macsatellite (or the pee-cee equivalent) work well for me (for non copyrighted file sharing of course)
