pop-ups are taking over my puter

i have a good pop-up blocker and i have to say i have a lot less pop-ups but the problem is i have kazaa to download music but i also get pop-ups from them that the pop-up blocker can’t block. it doesn’t matter if i’m on or offline i get them. is there anyway i can get rid of these? thank you in advance for any help you can give me. -jen

Uninstall kazaa.
May sound like a glib resopnse, but that’s what you’ll have to do to get rid of these things.

Remove kazaa. Then run spybot to remove any remnants of it. Proceed then to http://www.klitetools.com/MM/download.htm and download that.

It’s a hacked version of kazaa with added tools and none of the spyware/adware that comes with the original version.

Or you can live with the pop ups, your choice.

rather not remove kazaa simply because unlike some people i paid for it for two years its only been a couple of months. i just thought there may be a way to stop the pop-up without removing kazaa

Where did you buy Kazaa from? The reason I ask is because the free version is ad-supported and the paid version is ad-free.

Also check to see if CYDOOR and GIAN are installed on your computer. Both these are pretty rotten pieces of adware/spyware that install with kazaa. I think that they do not appear with the paid version but I could be wrong on that.

Go and look at all the computer stickies, re AdAware and Spybot etc. It’s possible that it’s nothing to do with Kazaa - I’m guessing you don’t have a firewall?

i ordered kazaa over the internet. no i don’t have firewall. i can barely surf the net so i’m not sure what the cydoor is or the gian is or how to check it. i heard from a close friend who went to school for computers and also has kazaa that it could be that. come to think about it though he didn’t pay for it. i did. is firewall worth buying. i just bought mcafee virus scan for 60.$. i didn’t come with it so i’ll probably have to pay another 60 which i don’t mind doing if it will help me out.

You don’t need to buy a firewall - download Sygate or ZoneAlarm for free.

Get Adaware (LavaSoft) and Spybot Search & Destroy. They are both free downloads. You’ve picked up some spyware/adware programs, maybe not from Kazaa, but from other sites you may have visited. Between these two problems, 95% of spyware/adware will be found and removed.

Then, in your IE browser, go to TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS, PRIVACY, and set the control to MEDIUM HIGH. That will stop the adware/spyware programs from downloading automatically in the future.

Microsoft just released a beta of the anti-spyware application that they bought from Giant. It can run with always-on protection, autoupdates, and does an excellent job of finding and removing spyware and adware. The beta is free, valid through July and available here. I highly recommend it.

Or get Firefox.

I agree with Regallag_The_Axe Regallag_The_Axe, install the Foxfire browser.

With Mozilla Foxfire, pop ups are a thing of the past!
