Well, yeh, although head-butting is kinda SOP for goats in general, and behavior a young one has been allowed to get away with (that’s so cute!) can persist into even neutered adulthood. But for sure the billy goat stink and heightened aggression would go away.

If I had to guess (and I will!), the dog was killed partly as a punishment to the daughter for some past transgression. It would explain the timing of the killing, right before the school bus came back, when the daughter was expecting to see her pet.
I agree it is horrific. Just pointing out that even that doesn’t hold water when the puppy was a pet. “Country folk” do have pets.
It’s a scary that the GOP has reached the canonical “silly hypothetical thing that a politician can do to become unelectable” and we still have a decent chance of the GOP controlling all branches of government in November 
Oh, I can absolutely see her telling the girl that it was her fault the animals misbehaved and had to be put down. More of those Republican family values we’ve heard so much about.

Something else that struck me about that quote, that I don’t think has been mentioned yet, is I felt an undertone of “those slacker workers were daring to watch/judge me but then got back to laboring properly when they realized I, a gun-toting member of the aristocracy, was looking at them.”

Yeah farmers in my family growing up definitely had two types of dogs. Working dogs who lived in sheds and weren’t house trained or safe around kids, and pets who lived with the family and were great around kids. This dog is clearly a pet not a working dog.
Also the working dogs while they weren’t cared for in the way we think pets should be had pretty good lives, unlike Kristis poor dog. They basically spent long days with their humans (who cared for them very much even if they didn’t buy them footie pajamas) doing hard, mentally stimulating work herding sheep. I would bet if you measured their stress levels they were much lower than your average pampered urban dog in a house where everyone works full-time.

She’s demonstrating that she doesn’t give a fuck about what anyone thinks about the morality of her actions, especially a bunch of ditch-diggers who ought to vote her into office and then stop whining or demanding accountability.

Though another key point here is what Noem and the other VP front runners are campaigning for is an electorate of exactly one. They don’t need to get the support of the MAGA faithful, or the east coast GOP elite, or the swing voters, or any other segment of the electorate except Donald J Trump himself.
I do think she’s probably screwed up her chances with this revelation. But that’s mainly because there is a large field here, it turns out there A LOT of spineless Republicans willing to be an empty suit who’s only purpose is to betray their oath of office if called upon. Hell, Trump has a pretty well honed sense of self preservation and that goes against spending four years hanging out with an obvious psychopath who tortures and kills and then boasts about it, even with secret service protection.
Yeah, Noem was my top pick for Trump’s VP slot, but I agree with those who have said this is too ghastly, even for Trump. Not because he finds fault with her kill dysfunction, but because in his reptilian way, he gets that puppy-killing (and cruel goat-killing) offend most people’s basic sensibilities.
He may not get why, but he gets that it does.
She should’ve written that the dog and goat told her that there was no evidence of election interference on 2020, justifying the whole thing to her audience of one.
Especially by a woman. A voter might believe a man saying it was “unfortunate, but the dog was untrainable” but women always need more evidence than men for extraordinarily claims (and to be clear, I think this extraordinary claim needs evidence) and violence from a woman is perceived differently. In this world view, men sometimes reluctantly take on unpleasant violence with pure intentions, but women don’t. They hand it over to a man.
Normal farmers who do their own butchering, and hunters too, do their best to dispatch a meat animal as cruelty-free as possible.
I’m absolutely disgusted by this story, this woman and the mere fact that some high political figure in the US can even think that telling such a story could score them electoral points. This is nothing but clear psychopathic behavior, and we know that many murderers (of humans) started out killing animals before. Besides this moral depravity, I think it’s telling and disgusting that nobody so far has even mentioned legal implications, so actions like that seem to be totally a-ok in America. Here in Germany, she would be in deep legal troubles, as killing animals for no apparent reason is a serious crime (animals are legally not mere objects anymore here, thankfully), and she would face at least a few months of probation, if not jail time.
