Fuck off March (minirants)

Holy crap, another bomb in Texas. In the fedx facility. This is getting crazy.

OMG, C.C., I don’t know what to say other than please don’t blame yourself. That poor girl.

I’m so sorry. I hope her parents are charged with negligent homicide. Assholes.

there was a report on NPR this morning about California has “clinics” operating to assist women who are pregnant. Some of them have no healthcare care professionals such as nurses or Doctors and apparently exist to talk women into having babies. they offer no terminations nor birth control options as they don’t believe in it, other places that do have health care professionals but don’t offer birth control or terminations because of religious beliefs. CA wants legislation that these unlicensed facilities have to have signs that that are not licensed and the others to have signage that they do not offer any of this type assistance. These clinics are up in arms and feel it is against their rights to Free Speech and religious freedom to not disclose this information.

They in fact get coached on how to draw in women who are wanting these services in order to deny the service to them.

I have no problem with someone operating a LICENSED clinic like this but disclose up front that services will not be available. But of course it is not their goal to treat women of like mind… they want to trick and coerce the other women.

Beckdawreck, since you mention pie and are in Arkansas, I also saw where you mentioned possum pie on another thread). One of my friends just published a book “Another Slice of Arkansas Pie.” She has written a number of food/travel books about Arkansas. I had never heard of Possum pie or chocolate gravy for that matter.

I have seen that book. I will check it out. Yea, chocolate gravy is some good stuff. My kids just love it with biscuits. I am gonna make some.

The Free Speech argument shouldn’t hold up, since SCOTUS has held that states can force doctors to lie to patients about the dangers of abortions. One would hope that telling the truth would also be OK.

The religion is a harder case. IIRC, somewhere a woman is suing about 24/48/72 hour waiting periods as infringing on her freedom of religion, so that will be interesting if it gets to SCOTUS.

Those fake clinics and “crisis pregnancy centers” are all over the place, and some states even subsidize them. They can preach whatever they want, but I have a massive problem with them doing it while disguising themselves as genuine medical practices and using government money.

Looking back, I really question the value of “advanced” high school classes…I guess it all depends on the school system. One of my high school teachers cheerfully admitted that she planned her lessons and tests so that the lowest-performing kids in the class could pass. I was placed in the highest available math courses from junior high onwards, was enrolled in AP Calculus, and maintained straight A’s the entire time, only to be deposited back into pre-calculus classes once I hit college. (My AP US History course was amazing though. The teacher went above and beyond, even bringing in a university professor for essay-writing sessions.)
And [[hugs]] to Crazy Canuck. That’s just… :frowning:

Well I have a sad face today. The lil’wrekker and 3 friends are flying to the beach for spring break. She will have a blast, I’m sure. I was hoping for a day or 2 of her face in my vicinity. She will be back the weekend. :frowning:

A 2016 list, I’ve not verified either the reliability of the site or the list independently (it is the Pit, after all): A State-by-State List of the Lies Abortion Doctors Are Forced to Tell Women

Oh, you’re talking Informed Consent. Which is a medical byword. True, some states has brochures which are very biased.

Sure, but they never tell you that if you find Hillary Clinton under one of your children’s bed and appease her with an aborted fetus, she can’t return for seven years.

It’s the first day of spring, and they’re predicting we’ll be getting a foot or so of snow from between noon today and sometime late tomorrow night.

Crazy Canuck, I haven’t said anything because I haven’t known what to say. I can’t imagine the pain that poor girl was feeling, and I can’t imagine the pain you must be feeling now. I am so sorry for both of you.

That poor girl’s father should be the one beating himself to shreds over her suicide, not you, CrazyCanuck. I hope someday, someone can convince him of the truth about what happened, and that he’s well & truly haunted by his role.

Stay strong - and clean - and I’m so sorry this mess of misery & emotional crap & dysfunction came tangling through your world and your head. All y’all deserved better.

So TCM is showing 2001space odyssey. I was too young to see it when it was first released. I saw it first as an adult. I must have been wasted on something, cause I thought it was great, at the time. It kinda sucks as a movie, now. It looks campy and dated. Is it just me?

Biased, lies, what’s the difference?

And it seems various ‘truth in advertising’ laws would cover a lot of what CA is requiring, particularly for the ‘clinics’ with no actual medical personnel on staff.

…which kinda takes it out of Informed Consent territory and into the Land of Disinformed Consent.

Oh my freakin’ god!! The idiocy, it burns!!

Someone posted a picture to a local Facebook rummage site to sell a couch. He had his finger in the picture because he was told it helped with privacy.
I responded that people only put their finger in the picture to cover up identifying things such as license plate number or name and address and that, unless his name and address were on the couch, it wasn’t necessary.
He came back saying something about covering a license plate number is illegal and that his name and address were in the phone book and all over the internet.
I started to type out a post to that but just said ‘Never mind. You just keep on keepin’ on.’
He responded with something about if I wanted him to he would post his license plate number and address but couldn’t see what it had to do with selling a couch.

:smack:

Thank you all for the kind words, it has definitely helped and been very appreciated. Sadly, there is no silver lining to this story. The more I’ve learned in the last two days, the worse it keeps getting. Knowing what I know now, I honestly can’t say I wouldn’t have made the same decision she did, her situation was really that bad. The most positive thing I can say is that at least she’s not suffering anymore.
