Fuck off March (minirants)

I noticed a little while ago that the bath was draining a bit slow, then last week I realised that when I ran the washing machine the water from it was briefly welling up in the bath, before draining slowly away.
Clearly a drain that’s starting to get clogged. So, I thought I’d better see if I could do anything before the problem got worse, so I plunged the bath, to see if that would do anything.

Well, I guess the good news is that it did do something, and also, I did do something before it got worse! It completely clogged it, and the bath is now full of disgusting gunge and water which isn’t draining at all, yaaaay!

Christ’s sake, FedEx. You bought RPS 20 goddamned years ago, and yet you still operate FedEx Ground as an almost completely separate entity from FedEx proper. Different depots, different distribution centers, etc. I bought some parts from an on-line sporting goods retailer, and they shipped it FedEx ground. tried to deliver Friday morning when I was at work, but requires an adult signature. OK, understood. So after x p.m. I’ll be able to pick up my package at the depot, right? Nope! Can’t do that with FedEx Ground. Well, it’s tagged “Home delivery” so they deliver on Saturday. 'cept even though they tried to deliver it Friday morning, here I am at 4 p.m. with nary a peep. I have to go to the hardware store, and I just know if they’ll show up in the 10 minutes I’ll be gone.

and that’s exactly what happened. stepped out for a few then came back home to find another fucking door tag.

Well crap. I have a uti. The peepee part ain’t too bad, but my back is killing me. I sent Mr.Wrekker for azo-max. He’s notorious for coming back with the wrong crap. I sent him a picture to his phone. Fingers crossed. I will see doctor Monday in urgent care

Since February was such a freaking mess, I’m putting March on notice right here and now!

In February, I wracked up *horrendous *vet bills for my beloved cat, to finally get a diagnosis of small-cell lymphoma. :frowning:

Today, I got a call from the compounding pharmacy to let me know that the chemotherapy drug that the vet called in will cost $600 per month!! “Do you want us to make up the compound?” Hmm, fuck no. I love my cat, truly I do, but I also need to make my mortgage payment every month. This just sucks.

Yea it does. That’s just mean. Maybe do a crowd source to raise funds for your kitty.
Does the vet say it is a possible good outcome if you spend the bucks?

We’ve got a doggo who could get $8,000 of vet work done (surgery and meds). Our dear sweet vet says “I wouldn’t do it. He’s already old and blind and severely learning disabled, so his quality of life wouldn’t really improve… and if it did, he wouldn’t notice.”

Oh, just checked… Doggo says “Hey, instead, you could contribute to some Mini-ranter’s KittyKickstarter!”

We lost our beloved younger husky to intestinal lymphoma last spring. Chemo would’ve only bought him maybe 2-3 months at the most with no guarantees. We declined it.

The one nice thing about lymphoma, at least in dogs, is that it’s painless. They know something’s wrong but it doesn’t cause them discomfort.

The bad thing is that this particular lymphoma starves them to death. Our vet gave us prednisone in the hope that it’d spark Oakley to eat at least a little something. The only thing he could keep down was ground chicken with a bit of white rice. When the prednisone stopped working (and it does after a fashion) this formerly robust snowdog lost all interest in food.

Lymphoma is also swift in dogs. The vet gave Oakley 2-3 months at the most. He crashed within a month after the vet telling us that. I don’t know if it follows the same pattern in kitties.

I’m so sorry jayrey.

I had a kitty die of lymphoma a few years ago. Like kiz’s dog, she didn’t appear to be in pain - just tired and not eating much. Prednisone and some shot that they gave her at the cat cancer clinic kept her going for a few months, but it got harder and harder to get her to swallow the prednisone, and eventually she just crawled under a bed and died. I still feel guilty that we didn’t take her to the vet to be put to sleep, but she was still happy and snuggly right up until a few hours before she died.

We didn’t pursue chemo, either. Ironically, our other cat is on a compounded medication that is used in humans for chemo now (for his IBS), but it’s not outrageously expensive.

The course of lymphoma in dogs varies somewhat. Our Lab went into remission after a round of chemo, relapsed about 9 months later, then made it about four months on prednisone alone (she was active and eating until the end, which came suddenly).

My husband said to leave an open package of pastrami and rye bread. The car will smell amazing!

Jayrey, I’m so sorry about your kitty! Have you joined the Facebook lymphoma group? There are a lot of knowledgeable people. Someone might have some other options for you.

Jesus, it is raining (again). Our streams and ponds are over their banks. No worries with house cause we are high on a hill, but there is one road we worry about. I got lil’wrekker on the road back to school early. She didn’t like to do it, but I insisted.
I was hoping to set out some onions this week and plant some greens. It appears it will be too wet. Alas, Arkansas is having a wet spring. How depressing. I dont feel well so that makes it worse. I am going to the doctor first thing in the morning.

It snowed another foot on Friday, biggest snow year in Calgary since 1962, and I seem to get 0 days of skiing in a year now rather than the 30-50 that I used to get so I am not excited. Topped off a 14.5 hr day and 60+ hour week on Friday with a nasty phone call from a client that will never be satisfied with anything, as I climbed out of the truck to start the shoveling.

Also a big fuck off to google for skipping the audio jack on the new phone I had to get yesterday.

My cat or dog are not dying, I am not putting any family members in rehab, and no one has died, so I will just bow out to the true rants up thread.

I am not sure, but a long work week, another foot of snow and no fun time sounds like a legit rant to me.
Hope next week is better for you!

Tell me about it. Went to check my trail cam for deer and hogs yesterday.

Trail Cam

I no longer have a dying pet, but even if I did a long workweek with all that snow would still be rant worthy.

Lucky’s passing was calm and peaceful. Except for the part where my BB told the vet that he couldn’t pay someone to kill his cat and burst into tears. As this was after the part where he had already signed the paperwork and given her a check, and AFTER the part where Lucky had gotten his injection and was in the process of dying, the vet looked at me, I nodded and she left. (didn’t leave the property in case I needed her, just got out of the way.)

Holding an unconscious cat is different than holding a dead one.

His veins weren’t collapsed, so he only had to get 1 stick.

Simple was weird all of yesterday, but today his eyes almost popped out while he was trying to remind us that Lucky needed his old sick cat treats so Simple could have the leftovers.

Buttercup is now at the vet because she ate Lucky’s bed and we don’t want to lose her from blockage. Surgery is probably going to happen in the morning if she doesn’t take a HUGE dump in the night.

Westley is glued to my butt. I just went in to pee and had to shove her away from the toilet paper.

In other news, Missy is OK with hunter green towels, but hates garden green towels. She is OK with rose colored towels, but blue ones are not acceptable. Its fun to me to wake up and do the towel search, others are not as entertained. (this morning, there were 2 red kitchen towels on the bed, 1 bath sheet in the living room, and 2 face clothes on the kitchen floor. Rose colored, but the kitchen would not look nearly as nice with rose, so she’s not going to win this one. Maybe.)

Nice!

Is this where we rant at ourselves for being a dumbass?

Took Mo for our weekend Sonic breakfast - sausage burrito, tots, cherry lime-aid for me, two strips of bacon for her. Got home, out of the car, and instead of using my elbow to press the door lock like I usually do, I thought I’d use foam drink cup. Yeah, cherry lime aid all down the car door.

Holy crap I have done that very thing. If any went in the door, like down the slot the window goes up and down in, your window will now stick. I had a door with electric windows ( which I guess everyone does) and it took a major operation to clean it all out.
