Yeah, it’s just like the religious law against saying “Jehovah”.
No, your post isn’t stupid. Maybe you are on to something. Quit making Christmas a legal holiday then the stores can stay open and people can buy more shit. It’ll help the economy.

Could you make that “Surf & Turf & Blowjob Week”
Thanks. Much Obliged.
This is the bit that would piss me off. Congress gets to take two days off but the staff don’t?
Dude relax. The economy will still be in the shitter after the High Holy Days.
Apropos of nothing:
A devout Jewish woman named Anna
Is extremely afraid she’s a goner
She was screwing one day
In each possible way
Quite forgetting it was Rosh Hashanah!

oddly enough, the Dow finishes up almost 500 points cite and attention to any news source mwould confirm that work continues - just no voting.
Well, I’ll be d-mned. Consider my ignorance fought. I didn’t know about that.
The OP is 100% right. Not because Rosh Hashanah is a silly holiday, or because the nation needs Congress to pass a bailout, but because Congressional leaders and the Bush administration told us that if a bailout wasn’t passed immediately, the economy would be irreversibly ruined and we’d all be eating boiled wallpaper for the next 20 years.
And then those very same people took two days off in the middle of the week.
The average Joe may not understand credit default swaps or the Case-Shiller index, but he understands that he’s being screwed over when he’s told something is an emergency and then it’s suddenly not an emergency. The bailout is a motherfucking scam and everyone who pushed it is now a proven liar and ought to be prosecuted for fraud.
A hearty, secular, A-fucking-MEN to the OP. Just when you think it can’t get any stupider, they call a time-out for their imaginary friend. And then look at *us *like *we *are crazy!
As a nominal Christian, I don’t take Rosh Hashanah off work. I don’t fast during Ramadan either.
The OP may have been inelegantly stated, but I agree that the stated reason for the break (religious reasons rather than practical ones) makes no sense when the vast majority of congresscritters aren’t Jewish.
The bailout bill that was rejected was extremely lengthy and detailed. Presumably, having just rejected it, the document will have to be re-formated and its constituent parts re-examined and horse-traded behind the scenes. I further presume that this is in fact going on.
I simply do not see how meeting to vote the very next day or even the day after would be possible, religious holiday or not. What exactly would get accomplished?
How is Rosh Hashanah handled for Jews serving in the military?
Excellent news! Sounds like a good time to check my 401(k) balaaoh my GOD!!!
Dio, : (checks forum name): FUCK OFF.
I don’t want them rushing into a bad decision. Getting a couple of days off while the Jews observe the High Holy Days gives us a chance to open the eyes of the Christians & other goyim in Congress to how bad an idea this meshuga bill is. Rosh Hashanah was a favor to us all.
You could learn patience, atheist.
It is a turd of a bill, but the point is that the very people who told us a bill must be passed IMMEDIATELY OR YOUR CHILDREN WILL BE EATEN BY RABID BEARS are the ones who took it easy the last two days.
Correction: They haven’t been taking it easy, they’ve been adding 448 pages of crap like SEC. 503. EXEMPTION FROM EXCISE TAX FOR CERTAIN WOODEN ARROWS DESIGNED FOR USE BY CHILDREN. Well…I know I’ll be writing my congressman to express my support for that particular section.
It’s been said more eloquently, but the United States is in the hands of a bunch of goddamned morons.
