Abort fucking NOW. You are doing something really, really wrong.
After checking around on Consumer reports and having had success in the past with Sears products, I bought a new dishwasher from them. Less than 2 years later it stopped working. I called Sears repair and the guy came out and after about a 1/2 hour declared the control board was bad. He didn’t have one, but showed my wife (I was at work) essentially how to get at it and said it was easy to replace but it would cost about $200 if he were to come out again to replace it. I ordered a replacement board and installed it myself. The dishwasher still didn’t work. I pulled the schematic and did some reading and figured out how to troubleshoot the dishwasher myself. The control board wasn’t bad, it was the motor!
I called Sears and told them I had no intention of paying for the initial visit. They told me I could pay for a second visit and if it was determined the control board really is the problem, they wouldn’t charge me for the first visit. Yep, that’s right. I could pay for a second visit to get the first visit for free. Um… no. I went up the ladder and we agreed that they would send a technician and if the control board really is bad I wouldn’t be charged for either visit. If the control board is good I’d have to pay for both. The technician came out and he agreed the board was bad.
I decidedly did NOT buy another Sears dishwasher. They once sold quality appliances and products but not anymore. Their service was pathetic and I was out $80 (the cost of the control board) because of their incompetence. I’d buy a toaster from them but nothing more complicated than that.
