Sure, but support is dropping across the board. If you look at the 30-49 year old cohort, support ranges from 46 to 39% in 1968 down to 30% in May of 71 (and among over 50s, from 35-23%. I don’t think the dropping of support is because of more and more boomers are entering the cohort; it’s because the war is getting less and less popular generally. If boomers had some special opposition to the war, do you have any evidence to support that? I’m not just asking for you to show me that there were Boomers who were against the war, because there obviously were, or that were young people involved in protests, because I’ll concede that. Protests are a young man’s game. But do you have statistical evidence showing that people born after 1945 were more against the Vietnam War as a group than people born before 1945?
The older generation had more conflicted loyalty, they were much more likely to despise war protesters even though they might privately acknowledge that everything about the war sucked. I had many close relatives who felt otherwise, and strongly, but for me I don’t see that a man honors his country by helping it do what it should not. There is a lot of mileage variance to that notion.

Well, there’s no question in my mind that younger people tended to be more supportive of active demonstrations and street protests than older people, but that doesn’t become “more against the war”. That’s more of a difference on what forms of political opposition and protest are acceptable, and certainly the baby boomer generation was and still is more willing to “take to the streets” (on the right too, remember. Abortion clinic protestors and tea party people tend to skew Boomer too).
“Gas anyone over 50!”
But seriously, your post is QFT. The really funny thing is that I was born in 63, of parents from the previously mentioned “Silent Generation”. I wasn’t raised by “Greatest Generation” parents, neither was I raised by “Boomer” parents. Culturally, I fit in neither “Boomer” nor “Gen X”. There aren’t many of us, and neither side speaks for us. They are all fucking loons. No one has even bothered to name us. They only try to claim us. A pox on both your houses!
Airman almost had me going for a minute, in Post #108
Holy fucking shit! I never thought I would agree with anything Der Trihs said, but I must QFT this… Damn. Am I now doomed to the hell he vehemently (but I merely don’t believe in) denies? What’s the world coming to?
Maybe the fundies are right. Armageddon is right around the corner. :smack::eek::(:dubious:
- I was born in 1954 and I’m not over 60, so I question your math.
- At least we didn’t talk on cell phones while driving and rely on the internet to meet people.
- Go to your room.
I was born in 1964 I don’t relate to Baby Boomers or Generation X. I am what someone coined “Generation Jones” People born between the years 1954 and 1965. Obama included. As one article described it, “They were the Baby Boomers who didn’t make it to Woodstock — because it would have taken them way past their bedtimes.”
Generation Jones
You really don’t need to explain to us the history of popular music from 1962 - 1975.
Rock is a blues-based genre, which doesn’t need to channel Miles Davis or John Coltrane to be improvisational. As with blues music, it’s possible for a creative rock musician to improvise without playing jazz. Sure, jazz did have some influence on many rock musicians, but it’s only one of many influences and doesn’t account for all improv rock. Eric Clapton sure as hell wasn’t playing jazz when he was with Cream, and I don’t think he really ever has. Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles weren’t playing jazz either. Sure, when you do get to jazz rock fusion and the prog-rockers, there’s a bit more jazz in there, but it was a minor factor IMO.
We in America sure don’t honor and respect the old generations. It says a lot about us as a people. It is not good.
Well if it went for baby boomers generation x would not be here generation x is a lazy generation and want everything handed to them. You do not know what real manual labor .In ever seen so many generation x people apply for social security disability for mental problems and physical problems how can your generation have physical problems you are lazy and don’t work like the baby boomers did you people want a free ride so you can play your video games or drink or do drugs. If you people get off your lazy asses and get a job then maybe us baby boomers can quit work but we can’t because most of you still live at home with mommy and daddy and they are still paying your way generation x needs there asses kicked into high gear and stop talking down the baby boomers because we are still supporting your lazy asses.

We have spoiled our children. It shows other cultures have not spoiled their children and had them turn on them.
Never trust anyone older than 51 and younger than 67.

Hip hop music is creative, revolutionary, exciting and it’s always changing and evolving.
You guys are great! I can’t tell who’s serious in this thread, but it’s all comedy gold.
Isn’t the OP (and a lot of the rest of you) too damned old to be complaining about how stupid and square his old man is? Is this where we are? 30 year old children still complaining about their parents? Don’t like that the Old Man is still in charge? Freaking run for the senate and take his seat! It worked for Oedipus.
**Fuck the Baby Boomers **
Aw man! I opened this thread thinking it would be a discussion of all the MILF websites out there.
Oh well, I think kids are soo cute when they reach 30 and realize they are still a long way from being in charge. It’s so precious.
But they will get over it, much the same as they out grow the “Terrible Twos.”

Well if it went for baby boomers generation x would not be here generation x is a lazy generation and want everything handed to them..
So, why can’t we be like you were, perfect in every way?
Yeah, we had a Colorado governor a few years ago who made a speech where he said old people had a duty to die and get out of the way.
So he’s now 75 and still working, and actually looks pretty youthful.
I have to say, though, it’s not like baby boomers CHOSE to be boomers. We couldn’t help it.
But you know what? I really wish the rockers from my youth would RETIRE. Right now! No more touring! Retire, and quit clogging up the concert halls, for the sake of your dignity!
You may rock to your heart’s content in private. Thank you.

So, why can’t we be like you were, perfect in every way?
Because you won’t stop playing video games and you don’t want to work you think that everything should be handed to you. Bring back the draft like it was in our day and let’s see how many of you are willing to die for this country like we did in Vietnam at least you will have a job instead of mooching off of your parents.
