Ink a dink a dink, you are a saint.
Bless you.
Inky, I gotta say it, you’re a shoo-in for sainthood.
Thanks for making me (and a bunch of other people) feel better about the world today. hugs
Thank you, Ink a dink a dink, for making the world a better place.
Ink a dink a dink, may I borrow your username for our next furbaby? It would be a favor.
Just for some more general advice for the feral cat problem, since, as you said, this has been happening to you a lot, first, you might want to clear the underbrush out, so the cats won’t have a place to breed or make a den. The second thing is to make sure that all your garbage can lids are securely fastened on, and, of course, don’t feed them.
If they continue to be a problem, there are traps you can get, both fatal and non-fatal.
You also might want to check out “Fix Our Ferals”, a program in the Bay Area that captures, neuters, and releases feral cats. Programs like that one have done a lot to reduce the problem of feral cats around the country.
You also might want to contact the East Bay SPCA:
Hi, Captain Amazing! I always wanted to say that.
We get the brush cleaned often - at $1500 a pop. We have lots of trees that when those branches fall, they take out things like roofs or - erm, our neighbor’s fence. Twice. Within two weeks.
When they cleaned our yard this last time, they (the guys) found a nest of about six of them, but I left them alone and Momma came back for them and moved them. Basically, I love animals, these little things fight the rats in the area, our garbage is closed and protected, and I believe it’s the circle of life in action.
Perhaps it was wrong of me to interfere with this little one. It’s mom had obviously abandoned it, knowing it was ill and therefore likely to die. I cannot let that happen, though.
There are ferals throughout the entire neighborhood, AND I live next to a park. There’s no way I could trap and spay/neuter them all. I wish I could.
All I know is this Doo-Dad needed help, she cried like she knew she had been abandoned and she was going to die, and I refused to let it happen. I can’t. It’s the kind of person I am. And I’ve felt that way myself.
I also give regularly to those groups you mentioned in your other post, and have mentioned this area, and they say they’ve tried to get over here so many times but the kitties are wily here…basically, if I can catch them, they will fix 'em.
And little Doo Dad was feral enough. I mean, can you imagine, being that sick and still having enough fight in you to try to ward me off with hisses and posturing and paw swipes? And she was six weeks. That’s about all I can handle. Of course, it was worth it when she was crawling on me later (on the towel) trying to get me to scritch her ears. (with the gloves)
I do what I can. It’s little enough, lord knows.
And - um to whomever wanted to name me after a furbaby - I dunno what that is, but I’d be honored.
Fight the good fight. STILL NO EMERGENCY SERVICES. On Monday, they get a real reaming from me. I havent decided if it shall be simply verbal or active.
Grateful to have had Doo Dad in her life for a day and a half or so,
Inky
Dunno if it got lost in the other post, so I thought I’d address it here - I dunno what a furbaby is - Cat?? Whatever it is, I’d be honored if the name got some use for something that was loved.
Best,
Inky
Yeah, I’m posting a third time, major faxu pas, I know ,but I jut wanted to say thank you to those who said nice things about me.
I am sure that each and every one of you would’ve done much the same in my situation. I am not special. I just happened to be here, have a dog with radar hearing who heard the mews, I investigated and found her.
You all would’ve fought just as hard for her - and many of you offered to help me fight for her as well.
For that - I thank you.
Not all that special,
Inky
Allegations of animal cruelty and mismanagement have recently been hurled at the Oakland Pound.
I assume that they are in charge of emergency animal control, though I may be wrong.
Ignacio De La Fuente has held hearings. Ignacio De La Fuente has sent out flyers about the problem, where he shown holding a dog (which, apparently, is not his own). Ignacio De La Fuente wants to be mayor, reportedly.
Now for some unpleasantness:
----- I don’t want this thing to die. I can’t take it to the vet - I just paid for my two to go and it was $300, which I can’t put down on this poor kitty.
Ok, but this taxpayer doesn’t want to shell out the dough for Kitty: it ranks too low on my list of priorities. Sorry. That’s just my old-school opinion though: there are lots of animal lovers who feel otherwise and may even vote accordingly.
Of our three cats, was was a furball in the street, andone was a feral in 7 F January cold. there were two but one has since died but he had a year or so of good life.
The little ones always tear your heart.
