Fuck you Ann, hell has a special place for you

Starving Artist, there is a lot of reasonable doubt in this case. Even the staff at the prison – the guards, the warden – believe he is innocent and are torn apart by this execution. One even asked him to try to be strong for their sake.

And what does this do to the people who have to execute him even though they believe he is innocent? The warden says it tears them apart psychologically – perhaps for the rest of their lives. Could you participate in putting to death a man you truly believed was innocent? Someone you had grown to love?

You say you can’t trust the media. Where are you getting your information?

Blessings on your shoulders, dear one.

Of what relevance is that? I don’t have any idea about whether he is guilty or innocent but the fact that he charmed his guards is totally irrelevant, imo.

I’m getting my information from accounts of the jury’s findings, the numerous judicial reviews that have found them correct and proper, and upon Ann Coulter’s column of yesterday in which she states the following. I believe that as an attorney and officer of the court, and in her position as columnist for publications that bear a certain amount of civic responsibility, that she must necessarily be honest in her representation of the the facts. I linked to Coulter’s column upthread but I’ll link to it again here. I think after reading it (and assuming you find her facts credible as I do) you will see that there was really no doubt that Davis was indeed the murderer.

With regard to what the warden and the guards may have believed, I can’t help but think they simply didn’t have access to the facts.

And I thank you for your blessings. Even though we don’t always (rarely?) agree, I do always value what you have to say.

(Btw - and I’ll go ahead and say this here even though it’s off topic - you might want to check out the latest issue of Vanity Fair magazine (Oct., Angelina Jolie on the cover); it has an interesting article on Ernest Hemingway that I think you would enjoy. Love letters, photos and the like.)

Grossest possible thing that could ever be written, other than if you replaced Ann with Dick Cheney… and even then that might be a tie.

Ann Coulter is a troll. A high-profile troll, to be sure, but ultimately just a troll.

“There is a growing body of evidence that radiation in excess of what the government says are the minimum amounts we should be exposed to are actually good for you and reduce cases of cancer.”
-Ann Coulter, on fears over the fallout from Japan’s nuclear crisis, Bill O’Reilly interview, March 18, 2011

“You will find liberals always rooting for savages against civilization.” –Ann Coulter
“They didn’t root for the Nazis against civilization.” –Bill O’Reilly
“Oh yes they did. … It was only when Hitler invaded their precious Soviet Union that at the last minute they came in and suddenly started saying oh no, now you have to fight Hitler.”
–Ann Coulter, “The O’Reilly Factor,” May 7, 2010

“If we took away women’s right to vote, we’d never have to worry about another Democrat president. It’s kind of a pipe dream, it’s a personal fantasy of mine, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. And it is a good way of making the point that women are voting so stupidly, at least single women. It also makes the point, it is kind of embarrassing, the Democratic Party ought to be hanging its head in shame, that it has so much difficulty getting men to vote for it. I mean, you do see it’s the party of women and ‘We’ll pay for health care and tuition and day care – and here, what else can we give you, soccer moms?’”

“These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by griefparrazies. I have never seen people enjoying their husband’s deaths so much.”
-on 9/11 widows who have been critical of the Bush administration

“We need to execute people like (John Walker Lindh) in order to physically intimidate liberals.”

“Whether they are defending the Soviet Union or bleating for Saddam Hussein, liberals are always against America. They are either traitors or idiots.”

“Liberals hate America, they hate flag-wavers, they hate abortion opponents, they hate all religions except Islam, post 9/11. Even Islamic terrorists don’t hate America like liberals do. They don’t have the energy. If they had that much energy, they’d have indoor plumbing by now.”

“I think the government should be spying on all Arabs, engaging in torture as a televised spectator sport, dropping daisy cutters wantonly throughout the Middle East and sending liberals to Guantanamo.”

I don’t care if she’s a liar or not. She is FUCKING INSANE.

Meh. She’s only insane if she actually believes all that shit. Riling people up by saying over-the-top offensive stuff is just trollery, and she’s very good at it and has made quite a lot of money doing it. Reprehensible, sure, but not insane.

Media troll writes provocative crap about liberals.

Internet troll agrees with her.

Yawn.

Here’s the thing about citing Ann Coulter as a source of reliable information… most people here will just point and laugh. Some people here will be dumb (or, I suppose, new) enough to argue with you. Almost nobody here who isn’t you will be dumb enough to give a flying fuck what Ann Coulter says.

I don’t care if the guy’s guilty or not. Americans should abolish the death penalty because it is both incredibly expensive and extremely barbaric. We’re supposed to be better than murderers. Keeping them in cages for the rest of their lives harms no one. Excecuting them is a costly action that brings us down to their level.

And this statement came from Wikipedia, with a footnote. So it must be true.

Of course, the footnote goes to an Amnesty International page.

The bullet fragments could not be matched with certainty, because they were too damaged. But the shell casings retrieved from each scene were matched with great certainty to the same gun. This proves the same gun shot both Cooper and MacPhail.

It’s true that this, alone, doesn’t tie Davis to the crime… but it ties the two crimes to each other.

There is a special place in hell for anyone who thinks that’s an adequate OP, even in the Pit.

I can’t help but notice that thus far no one has offered the slightest evidence that anything Coulter said in the linked article is in error.

Nor can I help but notice that everyone seems eager to focus on everything but that.

Really, neither calling her crazy or me a troll has the slightest bearing on what she said. If you disprove her claims I’ll accept it; if not, calling us names isn’t going to settle anything.

We are. We don’t kill innocent citizens for financial or emotional reasons.

Doesn’t she illustrate that everytime she writes a column?

There is a special place in hell for anyone who offers AC’s views as a factual cite. No need to bother refuting a serial liar.

Cheering the death of another person is enough to deserve a special place in hell, no matter how vile the person is.

I can’t comment on this particular case, as I know only what I’ve read in short news reports. I will say that I think the anti-death-penalty activists need to take a page out of the anti-abortion playbook and start attacking the laws at the periphery. The standard of guilt should be higher, for example, and physical evidence should be a sentencing requirement. I might even bar eyewitness testimony from death-penalty cases.

Basically make it so that if you want to fry a guy you have to have either a confession or solid physical evidence, and prove guilt beyond some standard higher than “reasonable doubt”.

PlainJain nailed it! EVERYONE knows that prison guards are just big cry baby pushovers … you can’t watch the news without hearing about how a prison guard is ranting about the innocence of this prisoner or that prisoner … they all need to toughen up I think!

I call bullshit.

State executions don’t solve anything, are more expensive than life-in-prison, don’t teach the executed the error of their ways, and don’t even reduce the homicide rate.

The only reason capital punishment gets carried out is for the emotional ‘gotcha back’ rush.

I grant you it’s not usually innocent citizens they’re killing, but it is emotional.
