Fuck you, bitch from HR

Head for the clock tower!

Not a bad sig, for board update purposes.

It could still be your catchphrase, because you’re talking about your next promotion.

Yep. I’m in IT myself and I’ve had Outlook go through tantrums where it refuses to pop up any reminders, even if I go into the appointment manually and verify there is a reminder set up.

Then, after a few months, I’ll get about 76 reminders pop up all at once, starting with “in 5 minutes” and ending with “3 months ago”. I’ve even gone to multiple co-workers and none of us can figure it out.

Then Outlook decides to behave and work again for awhile.

Yeah, I agree Outlook/Exchange can be buggy, but I think if she had been telling the truth she would have opened a ticket with ICS to have a look at it (she did not). When someone fucks up and blames it on “not getting the email” or “not getting the reminder”, it makes me :dubious:.

You wanna know what I think is more likely? She forgot, and walked away from her desk, so she didn’t see the reminder when it popped up.

A lot of people don’t bother their IT departments with little stuff like that. Everyone’s system is buggy in some way, so people learn to expect that weird things will happen once in awhile.

Whatever. Doesn’t have all that much bearing on the OP, though. Thanks for your participation.

Winston, errr, have you, ummm, seen my stapler?

I’ll set the building on fire.

I’m not sure why you’re surprised by the incompetence of your HR department, Winston. Any company dumb enough to hire you isn’t magically going to smarten up when they hire everyone else. I assume the place is mostly convicts and the developmentally disabled.

Clearly, the appropriate response is to express concern and inform her that since you administer the system, you’d be happy to look into what caused the error, if she can give you further details. That way, you can try to track down the bug and make sure it doesn’t recur.

If she’s lying, you get to make her incredibly uncomfortable.

If she’s *not *lying, you get to fix the system you’re supposed to be in charge of.

I see no bad here.

True. When you put it like that it’s sort of hard to stay angry.

ETA: I’ve never been convicted.

You’d make a lousy Sys Admin. Here’s what I did, son. Read and learn.

I assured her that it was ok that she missed the meeting and reminded her that it happens to everyone once in a while.

I feigned concerned understanding when she blamed Outlook/Exchange, and

I quickly changed the subject (to the matter at hand - my ‘interview’)

Then I went back to my desk and deleted her Home drive.

1.) I’m nobody’s son, mister;

2.) I roffled; and

3.) *My *suggestion has the benefit of actually being feasible in a real-life office setting (in the “not getting you fired” sense).

Fair enough. However, I’m of sourthern Norwegian heritage, and my people are (stereotypically) averse to any sort of emotional display. Making her uncomfortable would make me unconfortable. Not cool.

Yeah, that wasn’t the category I was thinking you fell into.

What, you’d do this in person? What kind of sysadmin *are *you?

Email, man, email!

As soon as I get this fork out of my eye, I’m gonna gut you like a fish.

Frankly, I think mine is the most generous interpretation – at least in my scenario, it’s not your fault you’re the way you are.

It’s like when you try to tell someone a story and they ask if you’re drunk. Always say yes, even if you’re not, because at least then you have an excuse.

I agree completely. Say, who’s minding the store?
