Hmm…could it be you’re talking about the fact that many of the servers have been down all day today? If so, I share your frustration.
Oh, and a belated thank you, Left Hand of Dorkness for the advice on trying to get faster patch downloads.
As I was informed when I started this thread last week, it’s Tuesday, aka Hell Day, aka Server Maintenance Day. I was a little miffed, too, as I’ve been home sick all day and couldn’t play until the afternoon, but they actually brought them all up not TOO long after they estimated they would, and I haven’t had any issues with lag or any bugs so far.
There was apparently a mini-patch implemented as well.
My server was down for close to 24 hours, but it was one of the ones that got new backend hardware. They can keep it down all week if it fixes the lag, nightly dumps, and rollbacks. Only thing I’m annoyed about is losing the deposit on all the items I had listed in the Auction House. I’m betting that no one is getting that money back.
Home sick again today. It’s probably too much to hope that everything will be working still. I won’t find out until after I call in to work, though…
Yep, talking about two things:
- The “extended maintenance” on servers is still being extended.
- The new patch they installed had a lovely feature: if your character was named (for example) Sally, and I decided I didn’t like you, then I could create a new character named Sally on your server and log on with it; then you wouldn’t be able to log onto your server under your character named Sally. As soon as someone discovered this, the griefers started going wild, and Blizzard had to shut down about half the servers in order to try to isolate and fix the problem; every single remaining server had a queue last night around 400 people.

Wonderful. Well I guess I just hope that my character is still there after the rash of deletions I’m sure they had to do. I heard of at least one guy who was missing his lvl 60. If that happens, I’m done with it.
Oh, and my server is still down.
Does… Blizzard not have an open test server? Geez-all-pete!
I played for a while this morning. Hyjal is up. Managed to finish the first two centaur quests in the Barrens. 
I believe all the servers are up now.

Threads like this make me happy to be playing City of Heroes. Patch days are no different than other days: the patches are 90% pre-downloaded and have been extensively tested on the public test server. The daily mainenance period never lasts long.
How could they let through a duplicate-name bug? Talk about a severe database mismanagement problem!
WoW is the only MMORPG that’s ever tempted me, even with all its problems. Despite its difficulties, since it came out I’ve not played a single other computer game.
I criticize it because I love it so much.
