FUCK YOU, Dennis Franchione!

Oooooooo…

Sorry. I guess when the only things to do in your state are worship Bear Bryant, visit the Bollweevil Monument in Boaz and bitch about the ten commandments, UA football is pretty important.

(Snickering at the mad troglodytes…)

Look, Tide fans, you wanna be mad? Be mad! You wanna rant and cuss? Flail away!

But unless you spent hours weeping for the poor kids Franchione left behind at TCU, don’t you DARE try to take the moral high ground.

Ogre, check your email.

I just now got around to re-checking this thread. I will be back to comment if I get a chance today.

John Carter of Mars, thanks!

Skid Row, the boll weevil monument is in Enterprise, not Boaz. If you’re gonna make fun of us silly rednecks, try not to look like an ignorant fool in the process.

astorian, I can’t say that I spent hours crying over the TCU players and fans when Fran left there. I will tell you I was a bit worried about his statements in the Dallas/Fort Worth Telegram (I think) when Alabama was courting him three years ago. As you’re noting, he did almost exactly the same thing there that he did to Alabama.

There’s one glaring exception to the similarities, though; when Alabama’s NCAA penalties were announced in February, he met with the juniors and seniors on this year’s team (who could have transferred to another school without any restrictions) and convinced them all to stay. Every single one. That’s almost unheard of. He sold them a bill of goods, asking them to have faith in him and in each other to weather the storm. Seven months later, he began laying the groundwork to leave Alabama. That utterly amazes me, because I, too, believed in the man.

Whoever is listening to this nauseating news conference with this lying sonofabitch, can I please borrow some Pepto?

He loves traditions??? He loves history??

AAARRRRGGGHHHHH!!! I think my brain is going to implode.

ALABAMA FOOTBALL INVENTED THE WORD “TRADITION”!

You fucking prick. You goddamn mealymouthed LIAR.
I gotta get to work before I get fired.

Anybody got a valium?

The proper abbrevation is TAMU, otherwise you should spell out the Texas, as in Texas A&M.

Thank you,

I have to disagree, as Texas A&M was founded 30 years before Alabama, and the Texas-Texas A&M football rivalry is the second longest in the nation, going on 110 years. So, in this at least, he wasn’t lying.

Besides, just think of how much you can laugh when he gets his ass handed to him every year when TAMU plays Texas.

FTR…I did know that TAMU has a steep football tradition, but I was livid at the time. He was making it sound like he just got done with some junior college that had been around since last year.

And yes, Demise, I can’t wait for that scenario myself.

Also, astorian, I am not taking any moral high ground, per se, and I think we’re all very aware of how he did TCU. Evidently the man has no scruples whatsoever when it comes to selling out any team he’s coached. I guess in a couple or three years we’ll be seeing the same lament from Texas A & M fans.

I really do wish I’d made book on this, though. I could have cleaned up over a season ago. Ah well…hindsight and all that…

Just wanted to point out that it’s the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. As a died-in-the-wool Fort Worthian, I just couldn’t allow Dallas any claim to the hometown newspaper.

As for Fran, I thought he was the greatest thing since sliced bread when he turned TCU around. And I admit that I didn’t weep for the New Mexico fans either, what with NM and the other WAC schools leaving TCU behind while they set up the Mountain West conference. But that’s a whole nother rant.

I can certainly empathize with you there. When the rumors started swirling around that Alabama was eyeing him, he also said that he was happy in Fort Worth and didn’t want to ever leave. We believed him too.

To my Aggie brethren, my advice - don’t become too attached to Fran, no matter how much he claims to be devoted to A&M. If he turns your program around, I’m sure there will be some other school or pro team with deep enough pockets to make him change his mind.

And by the way, I’m a Texas Tech Red Raider, so I’m hoping Fran’s amazing turn-around magic has finally run out!

My apologies on the newspaper name, Kepi.

I don’t understand the presumption that a coach should be loyal to a school over himself and his career. Coaches are hired guns. They do their job and if they’re good, they get recruited by another team. That’s the nature of the biz.

I think it’s more pathetic that a team is overly loyal to an excellent-defensive-cooridinator-who-should-never-have-been-head-coach like Slocum who needed canned years ago.

Not that I really give this too much thought, seein’ as how I haven’t watched a football game in nearly a decade.

I think it’s not about what he did, but rather about how he did it.

If you think UGA doesn’t have its share of troglodytes, you’ve obviously never been in Athens right after a UGA home game. Pure insanity and stupidity.

Hey, 'Bama is just getting what it deserves for stealing Bear Bryant from A&M in 1958.

Don’t mess with the Aggies. Somehow, someday, they’ll make you pay.

I’m serious. You guys can have Ron Zook Right Now!

Anyone? Please. Help a Gator out.

Skid Row: Know how to identify a rich boy from Georgia?

Answer: He’s got two cars up on blocks in the front yard.

Silky, thanks! That was classic! May I forward it to everyone in the world that got missed the first time around?

And Demise has it exactly right. Everybody knows that coaches coach for a while, then move on, following their careers. But they don’t have to purposefully deceive their university, the fans, and the players to get ahead. He KNEW during the time that he was still pooh-poohing rumors of his departure, that he’d already made up his mind.

THEN he refused to meet with his players face-to-face. Coward.

Man, UA loved that guy. We would have done just about anything to keep him. You should have heard the roar in Bryant Denny Stadium when they flashed Fran on the Jumbotron, and he was saying in an interview, “I want what all Alabama wants…to win a national championship.”

Turns out the joke was on us the whole time.

I mean, really, what’s he going to say to the TAMU (sorry for the mistake earlier) players? “Trust! Loyalty! Accountability! No, really! Seriously, guys. Where you going?”

Man, I hope this haunts him the rest of his career.

You know… you Alabama people might want to check your history a little, because you guys stole our head coach(Bear Bryant) back in 1957.

I’d say things are about even now…

TAMU class of '95

bump, please review the posts thus far. Nobody’s ragingly upset that he’s gone, just that he left in such a deceitful, cowardly, soulless manner.

And don’t worry, sport. You’ll be singing the same tune in a couple of years…if Fran can even manage to drum up the faith of the TAMU players.

I knew that name sounded familiar. However, I’m not a big college fan, so I couldn’t remember why.
