I think the first question he asked is valid, which is wondering why rape is worse than any other serious assault. I’ve posted before that having been raped, and having been asaulted, I consider neither of them to be worse than the other. This is not true for everyone.
My own personal way of dealing with being raped was to consider it nothing more than a brutal attack, which is bad enough, but to deny it the power to really fuck me up by not thinking of it as a ‘fate worse than death.’
For other people, it brings a lot of other feelings and each survivor has to deal with the recovery process in their own way. I suppose there are more people in society who view rape as a ‘worse’ crime than other types of brutal attacks, therefore society as a whole tends to view it as such. I am aware that I am in the minority. I have met only one other rape survivor who views it as I do - that it was an assault, no better or worse than being beaten, shot or stabbed, and that it’s over. Most survivors have years of healing. I was incredibly lucky in that I got past it quickly and didn’t have flashbacks or anything. I couldn’t say what it is that clicked in my head that made it happen that way for me, and I believe that any way a person deals with surviving an attack and goes on to have a healthy life is the correct way for that person.
Now, the second question is where Hydrocortisone becomes, in my opinion, an asshole. It’s one thing to not understand the biology of why it is possible to have an orgasm while being raped, and to ask how it is possible. It’s another thing entirely to think that anyone could enjoy an attack against their person, and to do what Hydrocoritsone did and, based in nothing other than sheer ignorance, state that anyone could just ‘lie back and enjoy it.’
The biological response of the body is that if you do things to certain parts, you will get a certain physical response. So if you stimulate those parts of an unwilling person, their body will respond. There have been arguments that rape isn’t ‘unwilling’ because the woman gets ‘wet’. Those arguments are based on an erroneous belief about the function of the vagina secreting fluid in an effort to minimize the damage. Those muscles will relax, those things will happen, because the body unconsciously knows that to not react to that stimuli in that way will cause serious physical damage.
And although the body may go through the physical motions of an ‘orgasm’, it certainly isn’t an orgasm as normally thought of. I doubt it’s possible to explain to someone who’s been there, but you don’t “come” the way all people commonly think of it no matter what your body does while being raped.
So, you fucking asshole, you showed extreme disregard for anyone else in saying things the way you did, and in order to try to avoid becoming really fucking nasty angry at you I am going to hope and pray you did so out of extreme and astounding ignorance and stupidity of a kind I have never seen before.
