Nameboy.com is a domain registrar and “appraisal” service. Their tagline at the top is “The worlds most popular domain appraiser is now offering Free Domain Name Appraisals”
Why am I pissed you ask?.. Because these fucks will tell you ANYTHING is worth thousands!.. Are you fucking kidding me!..
Now, my mom is hooked on this site and she thinks I’m calling her stupid for trusting them. She’s been using them for the past 3 months. She’s invested over $2k in domains that are so bizarre I can’t believe my eyes anymore… and she’s thrilled!!! She gets depressed when I tell her this site is garbage. A hand full are quality domains but 99% of them have no market and it’d be impossible for one to remember these domain names…
WTF! How does a site stoop this fucking low? How the fuck are you even getting away with this!??? An appraisal site shouldn’t even be granted the option to sell domains. What a crock of shit. Seems to be the new online system for getting rich. I’ve noticed more and more companies are following this system.
I know exactly what they’re doing… They tell you a piece of shit domain is worth a ton of money so you register it from their site!.. and they’re $15 fucking dollars to register them!..
Seriously, this is the most misleading piece of shit I’ve ever seen. I hope you fucks burn in hell for this shit. You’re making my life miserable. My own mother doesn’t even fucking trust me anymore. She thinks I’m an idiot and she’s going to be rich with names like 3x53xc43.com and the like… Fucking sad.
She’s brand new to the internet, and the business world. She has no idea what’s coming her way. I’m still going to try convincing her it’s a bad idea, but she doesn’t seem to want to lay off. She spent $500 today on domains. She’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
Sucks… I guess I’ll just let her see how things fall through. One year comes by and not a penny made maybe she’ll come back saying sorry for not trusting me. Nothing I can do at the moment, so it pisses me off.
I just tried to add something to my cart, and firefox told me that nameboy’s certificate of security (or something) expired in October of last year. Yeah, I’d put my credit card info in that site.
Have you tried putting her great name ideas next to random gibberish and comparing them for appraisal? That should tell her that those numbers are as good as random.
Nothing against cybersquatting, just that if she is going to go down that path, she better be choosing good names.
Could you give us a list of good names she has purchased?
ETA: Plus, you can buy names cheaper. Show her a place where she can register her domains so at least her money is not funding nameboy.
Go to Court, and ask them to declare your mother incompetent, and appoint you (or a sibling) to manage her financial affairs.
Possibly harsh, but if she is really blowing her investment money on this rather than real investments, maybe it’s time for you & the rest of her family to step in.
Or ask her doctor to check for early-onset Alzheimer’s.
Sapo, I’ve tried it all. She’s convinced their algorithm, or whatever, is like some magical machine process that cannot be wrong… their bullshit listed on the appraisal makes it sound so complex it’s mind-numbing to some people… Mind-numbing as in, they can’t comprehend it so they assume it’s wonderful.
Put it this way Sapo… say for instance you were her, and for the last 3 months you were sold on the fact you were going to be a millionaire… but didn’t know any better, and this is all you focused on. If I had caught you after those 3 months, it would be a nightmare trying to convince you it was a crock of shit. Sometimes things just have to play out for people to get the picture.
Have you seen Requiem for a Dream, the movie? The woman who plays the mother is a good comparison to what my mom is going through. Almost exact, really.
