Yeah, your right, but I was On A Roll…
It’s not just freedom of speech. It’s part of the responsibility. My duty is to my country, to help it be better, which means not only voting to improve it, but to convince others to vote to improve it. If you vote for your own interest above others, then you are hurting more people than you are helping.
This isn’t even a left/right thing. It’s obviously the liberal belief. “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” But it’s also the conservative one. It’s not like Trump’s slogan was “Make Gatopescato Great Again!” It’s “Make America Great Again.”
We all agree that voting is about the country. Granted, you are part of that country, so your self interest matters. But it’s not the be-all-end-all.
That said, I will also argue that voting Democrat is in your self-interest, because having a functional government is in your self-interest, and Trump makes that impossible right now. Having a leader who actually knows what he is doing is in your self interest. Establishing whether the president is guilty of foreign collusion is in your self interest. Not having the entire world plunged into a depression due to tariffs is in your self-interest.
I have the right to argue my political position, and the duty to try and promote what is best for my country, which includes you. Sure, maybe I could have done it in a more polite way, but this is the Pit, and I expect people can take a bit of bluntness in the Pit. Also, I was pressed for time. I couldn’t run months of campaign ads or anything.
This, In its entirety.
And this. You can tell folks how to vote and they can ignore you. When you gerrymander, their votes are rendered useless. NOT the same thing at all.
I’ve never ceased being Great, Baby.
I suspect the reference was to Gary Johnson, Libertarian candidate for President.
Wow. What a turnout!
Three pages?! Wow!
Oh, and the voter turn out was pretty cool, too, I guess… (but seriously folks…)
Hope it wasn’t bad manners to leave my thread untended like that, it was a distracting couple of days. By the time the results were mostly ascertained I barely had anything left in my tank. Barely got in a moment of celebration before I coma’d for the better part of two days. So now I’ve spent all day (evening) catching up, having a chuckle and now, finally, celebrating properly. So, without further adieu…
YEEEEEHAAAAAAAW!
64% voter turnout here in MN! (and 77% in Hennepin County, home of the Twin Cities and yours truly, tyvm) I’m a little stunned. Overcome, even. This surpassed all my expectations, and I had high expectations. Unreasonable expectations, or so I worried. Not so unreasonable as to expect the senate to flip, but… still, not quite unreasonable enough, it seems. Apparently Imma have to get a lil more silly with my expectations if I wanna court disappointment. I’ll save disappointment for another day, though. Today’s motto: Woohoo!
Record breaking turnouts nationwide, too! Best in 50 years! 47%! Wooh-! Wha… wait… 47%?! THAT’S RECORD-BREAKING?! Even for a mid-term, that’s just… c’mon, people! Get on our level!
Not you guys, obviously, you’re awesome. WE’RE awesome! And “SOOO awesome” is how awesome, in case you were wondering. Thank you, (and me (and Minnesota (and “other”))) SO awesomely much. I just… sniffle… I love you guys! No really… snrk… I mean it, that’s not the alcohol talking. (though it does endorse this message)
Thanks, everyone! You and me are the best! We couldn’t have done it without us!
