Are you referring to game 11982, Monty? I’d seen it floating about on the Web but at the time (or at least on the sites I saw) it hadn’t been proven unsolvable. People were being entreated to either submit a solution or prove that it was unsolvable.
<in a ‘sixth sense’ whisper>
i see falling blocks in my sleep.
i have this problem, you see…
i have have this thing for tetris.
be it tetra blocks, gameboy tetris, exploding blocks, disappearing blocks etc,.

i see them in the bus shelter.
i see them in lego.
i have a problem.
Snood! The greatest game ever. I played all summer long, and have been going through Snood-withdrawl…
My old roommate could play Minesweeper like he was ringing a bell. (I like my metaphors mixed. Deal.) It was just amazing. I know he had double-digit scores on expert. And not necessarily just a cakewalk level, either.
Diamond Mine? WTF!? Any idea when they renamed Bejeweled? You know, the game that damn near killed production at the company I work for? And that, ahem, I was the undisputed champion of, at said company? Sure 99,010 may not sound like much, but it sure ain’t easy.
I, too, used to be a solitaire addict.
But now, it’s only gotten worse.
Solitaire is the “gateway” game. Sure, I ended up trying Spider, and loads of other games. But it has all come down to one game.
I’ve tried to stop… really!
I just can’t quit playing Dope Wars.
I have sold more drugs on that game than Colombia has produced in its existence. My high score is $27 million dollars. And I know where to go when the shipments come in.
I just got a handheld version of FreeCell made by Radica.
It’s just as addictive as the one on Windows, but I don’t have to turn on my computer…and then be foreced to play Diamond Mine. The bane of my existence…I’ve only gotten to level 11 and 44-47K points.
The Sims is another one I have to avoid if I don’t want to blow several hours in the blink of an eye…
Back in high school, it was Chip’s Challenge. I just wanted to beat the damn game. I made it to level 87 before I accidentally deleted my score!. It was one entire summer’s worth of work. I dreamed about Chip in my sleep. I only had the code to level 50, so I gave up.
Two years ago, my mom got me hooked on FreeCell. I am a freaking addict! I play a game every morning - if I win, it’ll be a good day, if I lose, I’ll play until I win. It’s madness. It’s the damn statistics, I tell ya.
I was late to my 11:30 class this morning because I was playing FreeCell.
I play FreeCell while I wait for the Boards to load.
The story about the author can be found here. This was of particular interest to me – I was familiar with the author since I was simultaneously writing other games, uhh… “simulations”.
And for the one person in America that has access to this thread but doesn’t know how to play the game (hehehe) the paper posted the rules here.
Randy, that’s one hell of a Minesweeper time. I think my best on Expert was in the upper 130s, on my old office computer. That was back before I found the boards.
Freecell was too easy almost from the beginning. Anything below a 95% winning percentage means I’ve been really careless.
I only recently moved past Win95, so I’ve only been playing Spider for a short while. I love it. I wish they had a three-suit option, because I’m getting better at two suits (record since last reset: 24-11), but I still find four suits damnably hard.
The only game I have recently been playing like that is pong
High score of 400 on it. I can’t get addicted to stuff like freecell because if a game doesen’t require quick reflexes I get bored:)
I was hooked on Freecell for a couple of years. Until we were forced to upgrade to Win 98.
Damn Spider. I haven’t been able to look at Freecell the same way since. The feeling I get when I win… Wow. So I play endlessly, each time hoping and praying for another win. I haven’t been able to beat 4 wins in a row yet…
By the way, why is it that everyone else who plays it talks about playing different numbers of suits? I have looked, and don’t see this option anywhere. I have to play with two decks, four suits each.
Solitaire, Frecell, Hearts, Minesweeper, and Spider adicctive checking in…
Have any of you tried the “Vegas option” in the Solitaire game? It is more difficult to win that way. And yea, check also the keep score option.
I play Frecell when I am waiting for downloads or just plain bored. My best have been about 6 or 8 wins in a row, but not all in the same session.
I recently discovered Spider, after receiving my new laptop(which is Windows ME). Been playing the two suites game, when I get better in that, I will try the four suites.
Minesweeper, I don’t keep track of scores since I mostly do my own games. That is, I select the biggest game possible, and decide how many mines to put there. My goal is to finish 250 mines, but I am making my way slowly, right now in 187.
I am also addicted to Hearts, and play it alone with the computer.
