Look at some of the Chili Pepper videos when you have the chance. I don’t think that Kiedes is gay, but the band is definitely not homophobic (Anyways, isn’t he married???)
My neighbor’s little girl has been getting up at 7 AM and practicing the piano right by my window (Note: I can reach out my window and touch their house. It’s damn close.) They also have construction going on for their brand new patio. The bricks…the incessant pounding…oh the humanity!!!1
I used to live next door to the principal of the town’s middle school. When we’d have a lot of snow he’d clear his walks and driveway before he had to leave for school, so he’d do it very early in the morning, about 6 am. He’d use a snowblower, which was very loud.
When we first moved next to him he made a point to come over and introduce himself, then when he did he let us know that that was the only time he had to clear his driveway and that a snowblower was faster. So to make up for that he said he’d clear our driveway and sidewalk when he did his. He did it for us and a few other neighbors. I was willing to be a good neighbor and not complain when he told me why he did it so early, and he was willing to be a good neighbor and make up the noise he was causing. Everybody won. (Sorry about the hijack!)
I’m sorry, I’m with the neighbor on this one. In the summer, it gets damn hot here, and if I don’t mow before about 9:30 or 10 AM, I’d about collapse from heatstroke before I finished.
If my peak functioning hours are late at night… is it OK for me to mow at 2 am? Of course not. Why? Because for years, only a tiny portion of the population worked the night shift, they were expected to put up with the ‘normal’ 9-5ers. Well, there are a darn sight more late nighters than there used to be, and if the ‘normal’ folk have a “no noise after 11 rule”, then we should have a “No noise till 11” rule too!
However I am not unreasonable… I can see it on hot days. But it hasnt hit ‘swimming weather’ here in weeks. Its cool & breezy all day (glad I didnt invest in a pool!)
As for me… I was at little brothers playing cards, with the kids along - this explains why I was still able to snooze at 10 AM. The boys had just gotten up, and were firmly settled in front of the N64. Our regular schedule would indicate that I have 30 more minutes before they must be fed. If Joe Mower next door had started in the front yard, I would have had an hour or two - BECAUSE HE TAKES AN HOUR TO DO ONE LITTLE PATCH! He doesnt mow like normal people - oh no! He seems to need to cut every blade 35 times like he is brushing his teeth or something! ACK!
I just dont like this guy.
The car alarm he didnt know how to work last month at 9AM.
The CONSTANT moving of my flowers (his yard butts up against mine) I had to put up a fucking FENCE!
The ‘working on the car’ in the driveway: he thinks if he hist the motor enough with a metal object, it will behave better or something! And he plays christian music LOUDLY while he does it.
I swear to god, if he gets a noisy dog, I am gonna burn him out!
I think this explains everything quite clearly. Mowing the lawn at 10am is quite reasonable. You don’t suppose this guy might have had something to do in the afternoon, do you?
If 10 a.m. is too early, when would you have him mow it? I usually figure I’m being sufficiently polite by waiting until 9. And when I do mow, I use either a push mower which makes very little noise, or a rechargeable electric, which is significantly quieter than gas. The consensus here seems to be that 10 isn’t too early. If he usually mows on a certain day, you may wish to close the windows and turn on the air or fans the evening before.
It bugs me more when my neighbors see that we have guests over in the afternoon/evening and are entertaining on the back deck, and they haul out their mower. And the guy behind me, I swear he should have headlights on his mower, it often gets dark while he is doing it. He’s the guy who owns every gas powered tool known to man. Mower, trimmer, blower, shredder, snow blower. What they fuck’s wrong with a rake?!
I used to love it when I’d be out shovelling snow, and it would be so quiet except for the scrape of a few shovels. Nowadays, it is unusual to not hear one or more snow blowers.
Yes, I’m in training to be a crotchety old man! How’m I doing?
