Yeah. Natural stupidity levels are probably just about where they’ve always been. It’s the artificial enhancement of stupidity through anti-factual media, mostly (though not exclusively) on the right wing, that’s seriously exacerbating the stupidity problem.
This is a total aside, I’m not wanting to single you out, but I’ve been noticing a lot of posters lately with posts where the empty line between paragraphs is missing.
I’m starting to wonder if there’s something weird going on, as my noticing it coincides with an update of the software. Are you guys trying to press enter twice between paragraphs and it doesn’t work? Are you writing your post in another application and then pasting it in?
(I’d make a separate thread, but I want to see if there’s anything to this, first.)
I don’t think it’s ever added it’s own extra line (like it does on reddit). If I want a line break, I have to hit enter twice, like you would on a word processor. So…

So it’s really social media to blame, because of the interactivity, rather than right wing media, which is only taking advantage of the existing environment. Everyone is pretty helpless to think for themselves because of the social media they belong to. “Everybody says” has never been so powerful.
I wonder why it doesn’t work on more people, though. Something under half of the US voting population, I think. What is the difference between those who are powerless to think for themselves, and those who aren’t? I think it’s upbringing, including education, and that education is much more poorly placed these days to overcome the ignorance that a lot of children are exposed to at home. I don’t think that’s the whole story, but I don’t think there’s much point to blaming opportunistic right wing media, nor omnipresent social media, if for no other reason than that that blaming gives you nowhere to go to attempt to fix it. Might as well be howling at the moon.
I don’t mean it adding its own extra line. I was wondering if you guys were adding an extra line (as is standard for paragraphs) and it was getting removed. It just seemed weird that I suddenly started noticing several posters posting paragraphs without an empty line between them.
Not sure. My posts do tend to get a bit on the rambly side and sometimes I don’t think (or have time) to go back and break it up into smaller pieces.
If you do start a thread on it, maybe link to some example posts with screen shots so we can compare what we see to what you’re seeing.
Also, I believe some of the themes had updates a week or two ago. Does that roughly correspond to when you started noticing it? If it does turn out that the theme you’re using isn’t parsing things properly, you could probably tag codinghorror and see if he can figure out what’s going on.

Just so were all on the same page (and I do understand what he’s saying), I didn’t put any there. Now, what would be funny is if instead of typing this reply, I just quietly edited them in. He’d see them, along with your response about not seeing them.
But, yeah, what I was talking about was that. I’ve never noticed you leaving out the space between paragraphs before.
I just recently noticed you and a few other posters were doing it and thought there might be a technical issue.
If it is something you are doing on purpose, it’s not a huge deal, but I would suggest it makes things a bit harder to read. It’s standard online for there always to be a space between paragraphs.

As I said, I tend to go off on rambles. Typically, I go back and clean up my post. Break it into paragraphs, get rid of things that are completely unrelated etc. But sometimes after I typed up some huge thing, I realize I have to leave for work and hit submit.
A fucking maskhole decided to head over to Vancouver from Victoria last week, in the company of some other maskholes, to attend a protest in Vancouver.
Now I can understand a protest. That’s certainly their right to express an opposition to a government policy. Fill your boots.
However, what I can’t understand is this particular maskhole’s decision to tell BC Ferries to go fuck themselves, and run around the ship unmasked in contravention of the law. What the hell did they think would happen? That they would start a revolution of like-minded passengers and unmask the entire ship?
No.
What happened is the captain turned the entire ship around, because the mask-hole would not obey the laws. And not obeying orders from the captain of a ship is fucking serious.
So the police met the maskhole at the dock and took him away.
In their fantasy-based world that’s probably exactly what they expected to have happen. As you say, reality failed to correspond to fantasy, and rightly so.
If only the maskhole’s parents at some point had actually “turned this car around”, maybe he (I assume it was a he) would have believed the captain when he was told it was going to happen.
Feel-good story of the day.
Didn’t something like that happen about a year ago as well. A bunch of people got on a ferry (I think it was a ferry) refused to wear masks and ended up getting banned from using the service anymore, meaning they had to find their own way home.
