Fellow Iowan here. It’s the second.
I’m actually from suburban Chicago, where people still take masking more seriously. This observation was from visiting family in Iowa. I felt like asking random strangers, so, have you heard about this pandemic? It was in all the papers …
The main theory is that we vaccinated folks are shedding showers of spike proteins, causing the non-vaccinated to menstruate abnormally, give birth to demon children and have other health problems. It is an enormous power - use it wisely.
Speaking of maskholes, Tucker Carlson is now saying that having children wearing masks “was a human tragedy, in fact, on a vast scale”, resulting in kids collapsing from lack of oxygen. Or severe carbon dioxide toxicity. Or something. He thinks it may lead to revolution.
He should be careful what he wishes for. The revolution will not be televised.
That explains the document that fell onto my desk from a rift in the space-time continuum identifying Tucker Carlson as “A mindless jerk who was the first against the wall when the revolution came.”
We just went to Step 3 in our provincial covid plan, which calls for no mandate for masks in public places such as malls or stores, but simply recommends masks for those who have not been fully vaccinated (basically most people under the age of 60 at this point in time)
Masks are recommended in indoor public places for all people 12 and older who are not yet fully vaccinated. The mask mandate order under the Emergency Program Act was lifted July 1.
I just went to a large Canadian Tire store. I was pleased to see that at least 95% of customers and 100% of staff were masked. Saw two people sans mask, both in their 20’s, and both, I guarantee were not fully immunized. (And I’ll guess were believers in conspiracy theories. They were the outliers, and I noted that everyone else was avoiding them.
Most here seem to agree that we need to get back to “normal” with a dimmer switch, not with a simple “off-on” switch.
As of today, 52.1% of Minnesotans are fully vaccinated, 57.1% have one shot.
We’re open without limitations, other than some stores asking unvaccinated people to wear masks.
Went to Home Depot: two employees and myself were masked
Target: maybe 10% of customers, almost all employees masked
Small grocer: just me and the employees
The county I work and live in has gone mostly mask less. But we are around 85-90% vaccinated. Found out the other day that we rank 26th out of 3006 for healthiest county in the US. So no surprise on the high rate of vaccinations.
Around here way less than half of people indoors are wearing masks. I don’t know what the vax percentage is. I myself have been fully vaxxed for well over a month, but I am still wearing a mask everywhere indoors because I am flying in 2 weeks where masks are still mandatory and I don’t want to get out of the habit.
I just stopped at a friend’s business to pick up a drill I’d lent him. On his door he has a sign that reads;
IF YOU ARE FULLY VACCINATED YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WEAR A MASK. IF YOU ARE NOT FULLY VACCINATED WHAT’S YOU’RE PROBLEM?
That sign is just wrong. It should be “YOUR”.
Seeing as how mask compliance was never a thing out here, not much has changed with the new CDC directives.
10 to 12 people die of COVID daily, and I guess that’s OK with everyone.
I pointed that out to him and he promised to correct it. Ironic that he wrote out “you are” twice when he could have used “you’re”, then used “you’re” incorrectly.
Yeah, this. I’ve been fully vaccinated, both shots, since April. I still wear a mask whenever I’m indoors (other than at home, or at my office), in stores or restaurants (actually, I’ve only been to a restaurant once, about three weeks ago, since all this started), or (especially) on the subway. Now that things are getting back to normal, I’ll be flying pretty often for work, starting in a couple of weeks. Not thrilled about that, but I don’t really have any way to avoid it.
People are going to do what they’re going to do. I’ve accepted that I can’t make anyone get vaccinated, or wear a mask, or just not be an asshole. I know that about a third of people on the subway aren’t going to wear masks, even though masks are still mandatory on the subway. I know that some people aren’t going to get vaccinated, because they’re idiots (including my own dipshit Trumpist brother, with whom I still try to get along).
Nothing I can do about it. For my own sanity, I just take care of myself.
So this will be my last visit to this thread, because I just can’t get upset and angry about this shit anymore. It’s beyond my control. I’m going to take care of myself and my immediate family. The rest of the world, including the aforementioned dipshit brother, are going to do whatever they’re going to do, and it’s a waste of my mental energy getting all worked up about it.
Just went to Home Depot, and then grocery shopping. Not very busy, but there was a grand total of ONE guy with no mask. His wife had one on though. He was old enough that maybe he was fully immunized, so the guidelines say it’s OK for him.
I was quite pleasantly surprised. Especially since in our health authority of 850,000 people, we’ve had a grand total of one new case in the past 5 days.
I need to reach your state of Zen tranquility. I was in Walmart today and overheard an unmasked young woman poking fun at the intercom COVID guidance and I wanted to fucking dropkick her. I’m so tired of this stupid fucking virus and it’s all her fault.
Here in New Hampshire, I went into a grocery store over the weekend. Of the dozens and dozens of people I encountered, I counted 6 masks. 2 were employees, one was very old, one was quite young. I so very wish I could believe everybody else was vaccinated.
They’re depending on herd vaccinity – enough have been vaccinated you’ll assume they’ve been too.
At least in my area, I’m assuming there is a very high degree of overlap between those who refuse to get vaccinated, and those who will lie and lie and lie about being vaccinated so they do not have to wear a dreaded mask. They’re the “fuck you” crowd, who puts their own needs and wants above all others. They have always been with us.
My assumption is that if you’re not wearing a mask in an indoor crowded place, you’re probably a source of infection and I will avoid you.
That has been my policy for over a year, but it is now all but impossible.
