A neighbor “kid” is up visiting her parents. Moved down to Missouri a few years ago to a small town. Around the same age as my oldest kids. When she walked over, I teased her about getting too close, because Missouri and the vaccines, etc. Later on, we’re chit-chatting and I mention the vaccine. “Hell no! I ain’t getting that. There’s been recalls and this side effect and that side effect…” My response was “You do know that the side effects from actually contracting COVID are much more common than the side effects from the vaccine, and most are worse, right?” Added in a few more facts in a non-confrontational way, let it go. I hope this changes her mind; not terribly optimistic. It’s really obvious that the pro-vaccine message is getting drowned out by the “well, all my friends think it’s evil” message.
The Tokyo Olympics are shaping up to be a disastrous super spreader event. The Japanese authorities seem to be making not much of an effort (or none at all) to keep the athletes in their bubble (viz. Japanese news reports showing some foreign athletes sightseeing in the streets with no mask). And apparently a Ugandan athlete has disappeared from his hotel room and bought a ticket to Nagoya on the bullet train, leaving a note saying he wants to stay in Japan.
With Japan being so oddly slow to get going with vaccination (vaccinated people are in the 100’s of thousands, not the millions they should be) and trying to control things by shutting down for a few weeks and then letting up too soon, the outlook there is grim.
They should have just canceled, but the IOC would not allow it, making it clear that their dollars for media coverage outweigh the deaths of a few thousand Japanese citizens.
In the wake of an increasing number of Covid cases and new mask guidelines from the CDC, Arizona governor and Republican maskhole Doug Ducey put out the following statement:
Fuck Ducey and the Republican-led legislature for enforcing a law against mask mandates. It’s maskholes like these and people who don’t get vaccinated who are making this pandemic last as long as it has.
So the CDC recommends masks indoors in order to prevent transmission of the new strain of Covid which is leading to increased cases in Arizona and nationwide…
… and yet Douchey somehow sees this as an “inability to effectively control the pandemic”? What now?
It’s like if your doctor tells you your blood sugar is high, and you are pre-diabetic, and you should change your diet so you don’t get full blown diabetes… and you tell him to fuck off, because changing your diet would be an example of the doctor’s inability to lower your blood sugar levels.
I was at a Mexican food place in Redlands California yesterday. It was the sort of place where you line up at one window to order your food then pick it up at a different window to take out or find a table. There was a divider between the two lines. Half and half masked, semi-distanced.
Maskhole got his food bagged and came back and started pushing his way past the people waiting in line instead of walking the other way were there weren’t people. This would have been rude before the world ended, but he got called out by a rather large man who stopped him and demanded to know why he was getting into everyone’s space unmasked, Maskhole told him to mind his own business, man told him that it was his business and Maskhole should do several impossible physical acts. Maskhole loudly displayed his own limited volucabulay and then shoved past man.
Maskhole was so distracted that he didn’t see the woman he had shouldered aside grabbing and squeezing his bag with both hands. It looked like a bag full of Mexican Mush when the security guard finally separated them.
Everyone else in the place acted like this was a normal, everyday thing.
OOPS!!! LOL. Very bad wording on my part, probably because I couldn’t laugh then (didn’t want Maskhole in my face), but I was totally cracking up while I was posting. It was soooo funny.
I was almost a maskhole today. I was at my physical therapy wearing my mask. When it came time to do some massage, tens unit and hot blankets my PT said I could slide my mask off as I would be breathing at the floor.
When we were done I sat up and thanked her because I was feeling so much better.
She said “OMG, you are so pretty! We don’t usually get to see people’s faces nowadays!”
I immediately pulled my mask up and thanked her for the compliment.
To me that was the best gentlest reminder to put my mask back on that I have read about (here, facebook, or on reddit).
