So I’m going about my monday as per usual. That means visiting various messageboards and posting inane crap. This morning is proving to be anything but usual.
My gardening website, www.gardenweb.com , won’t allow me to post. Either something has hijacked my browser, or their website and when I go to reply, I get forwarded to some crappy http://disney.go.com website. I’ve removed all of the cookies on my machine through Ad-Aware. Norton finds no viruses.
For what it’s worth, I can get to your site just fine (no big surprise), and the Disney site seems to be legit. I did a search on it and I found nothing about how to remove the worm (or whatever) behind it.
Actually, I’ve figured out what the problem is. The webmaster of the site, took issue ofg me mentioning a company he isn’t on good terms with in one of my posts. So he removed my posting priviledges by adding a redirect script instead of redirecting me to a page that explained why I had no priviledges there.
The GW webmaster is not singling you out, GaWd, for whatever comfort that might provide. It’s been a peculiar tradition on GardenWeb for years that trying to post while mentioning certain sites/competitors gets you “sent to Disney” (this includes trying to link to at least one competing gardening website).
And while it may seem bizarre in relation to gardening, bannings are not unknown at GW (feelings can run especially high in the Garden Tractor forum over such things as the superiority of Deere riding mowers and cup holder sizes).
It’s a nice friendly community, but watch your step, bubs.
Well, it may be a nice friendly community, but Spike isn’t. Hell, at least you get a warning here at the SDMB, I didn’t get shit except for a snotty, sarcastic E-mail insinuating that I was promoting someone’s website.
THere’s no step to watch anymore, Jackmanii, I don’t get the feeling Spike will be offering me my posting priviledges anytime soon.
That webmaster is a fucking moron. Please though, I’m sure you can find a better message board than that place. It hurt my eyes to navigate to it. There must be a gardening site that utilizes vBulletin or phpBB somewhere out there.
I agree Parental, but unfortunately, I can’t find a gardening site that encompasses all of the myriad subjects that Gardenweb does. If anyone does know of one, please do let me know.
I think I’ll reserve judgement of our SDMB moderators in the future because these are REAL jackboots.
GaWd, have you tried posting at GW without mentioning the site in question? Disney redirects are usually only active for the offending post, so unless there’s something else going on your posting privileges there should be OK.
