One of the greatest things about having a kid is that they’re an empty slate you can work on.
For example, I’ve lately had fun with Baby Kate teaching her that whenever I say ‘Boom Boom’ she yells ‘Out Go The Lights!’ at the top of her little lungs.
So yesterday I meet Lady Chance at daycare and walk home with them. And with Kate sitting on my shoulders I start saying ‘Boom Boom’ and getting the response. This makes my R&B ignorant wife look at us like we’re from Mars.
Pat Travers made it famous for the rock and roll public but it goes back to (at least) Little Walter on the blues/R&B side (which is where I’d initially heard it thanks to my dad.
Nope, just taught her the call and response. Big fun!
When the Devilspawn was very young, for some reason whenever we drove through tunnels the thing to do was to simultaneously shriek at the top of our lungs and hold our breath until the end of the tunnel, when we’d give the tunnel a round of applause. That was fun until we went through a particularly long tunnel and she had to be resuscitated before she could clap.
When the little Igors were still learning how to eat, we’d give them cheerios. I discovered with little Igor #1 that a cheerio would stick to the end of her nose if I licked it first. She wanted me to do that whenever she had cheerios, for a while. Both thought it was part of the toddler/cheerios experience. Mrs. Vlad just thought I was weird.
